FH never smiles for pics

Jolene, on October 29, 2012 at 3:05 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Thought today he would at least try. No go. So I am sure that the e-pics will be the same as any others we already have. I am so disappointed. Smiley sad

My fh won't smile for pics showing teeth bc he is embarrassed for missing a tooth up top in front but it doesn't bother me I think hes cute no matter what and as long as he is comfortable enough to smile for me i'm glad

I am the same way, I can't smile for a posed picture because it never looks natural. As a matter of fact I look like I am either in pain or severely constipated. This is why we are not doing "traditional" wedding pics or e-pics. Please try to understand what may be his discomfort and not reiterate how "disappointed" you may be....he is probably just as disappointed. I have been brought to tears by others telling me how I "ruined" pictures and it was not my intention to ruin anything. Try doing "candid" shots, look for a photog that specializes in "photo journalism". Then you can go "hang out" and be yourselves and the photog will get amazing shots of your FH smiling without his anticipating the photo. I don't know if that will help but I do know that it is worth a try. I do understand your disappointment but I also know how it feels to be the one causing that disappointment =(

Not to mention that your photog may have captured something and you could be pleasantly surprised =)

Tiedaknot, I do know how it is, I have never been a natural smiler either. In pictures since birth there has never been a picture of me smiling. However, I did have some pics done on Friday as a surprise for FH and did my best to make them as nice as I possibly could. Believe me, it was a great effort, but I did it for someone I love. And I do not have much confidence in the photographer, he did not seem like he was very into it, I do hope I can get a couple of pictures that I can enjoy with FH.

@Jolene...I love that you went out of your comfort zone as a surprise for FH =) It was a tough decision for me regarding the wedding pics but I wanted great shots and I know myself so we are doing the candids and crossing fingers that we get some good ones! I hear that there are words you can say that will make it look like you are smiling....one of them is "Sandia"...I haven't tried this yet though! I believe that you will get some shots that work!

I hate my smile. Sometimes if I am prepared for the picture I can make it look ok, but if I am actually laughing or have a natural genuine smile it is all gums and I HATE it. I am seriously panicking over wedding photos. I dont want to have to continue to remind myself not to "over" smile. ugh.

Don't "smile for the camera" -- just imagine your fiance is standing in front of the camera and smile for him.

Tiedaknot, thanks for the advice. I knew going into this that the pics would probably be one of the harder things to get through, but I really want to have something to look at that says how happy we really are. Amy, I think a lot of us are our own worst critics. Your profile pic looks really nice, I bet everyone else looks at your pics and thinks how beautiful you are.

Jolene, if your FH not smiling for your engagement pics is 'the hardest part' then you're getting off easy. This is who you're marrying, who you love, who you want to spend your whole life with-- a man who won't smile his real smile in pictures. Take a deep breath, let it go, and I'm sure you'll both be so happy on the day of, you'll get tons of candids with his real smile!

Well, hopefully there's a few candids in there somewhere? DH is the same way, and that was a main consideration when I was looking for a photographer. All the photos of him smiling are candids from me making him laugh(I'm good at that). Otherwise he's all stoic looking. There were more than I thought there would be too. I hope yours turn out similar.

FI is the same way. Even at his sister's wedding when he was a GM, he looked miserable! I've learned that I have to randomly start laughing which makes him laugh and hence, smile. Smiley smile We usually end up in a fit of giggles because I'm randomly laughing and that in itself, is pretty funny.

Both me and Hubs are the same way. Neither of us has a camera ready smile. So...we took our own e-pics by setting up the tripod and timer on the camera. And when we met with our photographer we told her up-front that neither of us were good in front of the camera. Seriously, I came up with something funny for my guy and me every time she was taking our picture. Everything from squeezing his butt to whispering dirty things in his ear. And it worked...we have some great pictures! I'll share them as soon as we get them all back!

Also, on your wedding day, I promise you'll be all smiles anyways. I know I couldn't stop myself from smiling the whole day!

I can relate. I have a crooked smile (inherited from my mom) and my already round face looks even wider when I smile, so I tend to be self conscious. I try, but if I am looking at the camera for too long my lips start to twitch and I just have to stop.

For the wedding, I would suggest you find a photographer who works well with candids so you are not just starting at the camera. You never know though - maybe he did try. If you were looking at the camera, you can't have been looking at his face in every photo. Wait until you get the pics back.

Aww thanks Jolene... I can contain the oversmile if I am prepared. It's the candids I am worried about, but those are always the best shots HAHAH!
