Feeding the DJ

CandiM, on May 18, 2011 at 1:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

I am sure this has been asked before, but do you feed your DJ at the reception?

Yes. Any vendor that you are hiring outside the venue, who will be working for you during the event needs to be fed. Your caterer should offer vendor meals at a reduced rate.

I am. Our venue offers vendor plates at half the cost.

My photogs are family so they are also guests, I don't think the florist or cake lady are staying so the only other vendor would be the DJ, that is why I wasn't sure.

Some of my vendors' contracts has stated that we must provide them a meal. If they didn't, we didn't even ask & are providing them a meal regardless. It's best to just ask if unsure.

Most venders meals are not what you are offering, it is usually a sandwich with a salad or something like that, at lest that is what most venues do around here.

Yes I provided my DJs with hot vendor meals. They were quite appreciative!

We include/require a vendor meal for any events over 4 hours, since a 4 hour event means at least 8-10 hours of work for us and the reception is really in the middle. We are perfectly happy to receive a "vendor meal" which most venues offer at a discount. Other choices are to have a "vendor table" but that's just being "very nice" to your vendors.

    Good luck!

I provided a meal to all of my vendors, and had a place for them at my tables.

My DJs said they had already eaten, but I had at least offered anyway.

My other vendors were very thankful though. They ate what everyone else was eating.

If you venue has a "vendor meal" ask them what it includes. Sometimes it's worse than a brown bag lunch!

I personally believe they deserve a hot meal, just as your guests do.

My vendors will eat with my guests.. I know them all personally anyway.. I've known my DJ for years thru work .. he is my coffee vendor and his assistant is his wife. My photog is a friend of a friend and my officiant is my uncle so we will all eat together. DJ will put on a pre-made dinner cd and I don't really want pictures of everyone stuffing their face anyway so my photog will just make sure she gets the toasts or anything else important.

If you feel like being generous, I say feed your DJ/vendors. But they shouldn't come to WORK your wedding and expect to be fed.

@Anne S. You posted, "If you feel like being generous, I say feed your DJ/vendors. But they shouldn't come to WORK your wedding and expect to be fed." Are you kidding me? Okay, so if they are there for 5 hours and 1 hour to set up, they are not entitled to a lunch hour? I think that violates labor laws. If they leave to get a meal, how can you be sure they return in time. Anything could happen, traffic, etc.

We fed the DJ, honestly I am not sure when he ate, but I told him his table number and invited him to eat when he felt like it.
