Favors

FutureOlson107, on April 15, 2019 at 5:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 84
Is giving out a wedding favor to all of your guests still common practice? My fiance and I were trying to get by without doing it if we didn't have to since every wedding we've been to it's always the same stuff that we never really end up using or we forget them there. Is this seen as tacky or cheap if we don't do this? Or do people not really even notice if you're giving basically a party favor?

They’re completely unnecessary. No one will think you’re tacky or cheap if you skip them.

That makes me feel better. I always feel like no one will really even notice if they aren't there.

We're not doing favors. I suggest if you really want to do any, do something edible like cookies, cake balls, etc.. I don't think it's a big deal not to have any though. I've never taken one at weddings because it's usually stuff I don't want/need.

I agree with this. We’re doing welcome bags (another total optional thing) instead of favors. You don't NEED to do either Smiley smile

We aren’t doing traditional favors I don’t think.

We have flip flops for the women to wear dancing or just take. Also our photobooth gives them all a copy of their pictures.

then I’m thinking of doing a popcorn bar with different popcorn and flavor shakers and candy mix in’s

I may also set up a small candy bar for those who have a sweet tooth and put it on the cake table.

Other option is doing a s’more bag because we love them but it’s october so I don’t know.

You can totally skip it. I thought about doing cookies myself, but my fiance begged me not to. So we're just not doing anything.

Nope, no one will miss them! I didn't do favors for my wedding and I'm sure no one even noticed.

We don't like favors. What we're doing is a dessert table and take out boxes. This way guests can take some edibles home and eat some there (we're getting a smaller wedding cake and then have layer cakes and cheesecakes put out in addition to other desserts). My sister set up a fund for the endangered species coalition and gave out little cards about the animals that need protection - so a sort of favor gift to an organization would be a good way to go.

We're not doing favors. I'm writing a personal note that I'll put at each guest's place for them to recieve when they get to their seat at the reception.

Favors are totally unnecessary. More people recently don't do them, than do. And most I see, don't get taken. Some are nice or useful. But so are 1000 little things in stores, flea markets, and product give-aways. The issue is, who wants to carry them around, and how much clutter can you let accumulate in your home. Why we take few unless edible. I also add, I have been greatly aggravated by couples who have nips to 2.5 oz liquor bottles as favors at weddings with children and teens. Because always, kids and teens go around pocketing them. Uncomfortable for guests who speak up to some teen with 10 in their pockets. Dangerous for smaller kids who can get alcohol poisoning and die from 2 or 3 small bottles of a sweet liqueur. Parental nightmare. I would rather you not invite my kids, or not give out un-monitored freebies of liquor, choke-ables like Jordan Almonds, and small unlabeled bags of nuts and fruits, or plant seeds which are poisonous if eaten. And never think badly of someone who does not do them.

I don’t think you need to. We originally were not going to but then a client at my work offered to make our favors as our wedding gift (they’re cake pops).

I am 100% opting out of wedding favors. They are not a necessity.

Personally I'm not doing favors, because it's more money and I have seen so many people at other wedding, just throw them away, or forget them.

I think people only notice it when it’s given to them. Otherwise, no one sees or notices. We opted out of giving favors.

Favours are a waste, just don’t do them. One day they will fade into obscurity

I think its your preference if you want to do wedding favors or not. I decided to do wedding favors. Originally I planned to do favor boxes with M&M's, but I saw that someone was doing DIY wine glasses and I loved the idea. It was less expensive for me to buy etched wine glasses than make them myself, so I ordered them. They turned out great and we are going to put small bags of M&M's in them. I thought they would be a wedding favor that everyone could use and the people that are traveling could easily take them home.

Not tacky at all! If favors aren't in your budget...don't even bother. Most guests leave them at the venue anyways.

I don't find them necessary. But I have to say- I found a really great favor for cheap- something I haven't seen before! If you're interested, let me know. For me, it came to about 50 cents per guest.
