Father, Daughter song

whitney, on March 25, 2011 at 12:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I am picking the song for our Father Daughter dance. I would like a song thats from the daughters point of view to the father. It will be a surprise to my dad.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Preferably songs that aren't overused at weddings like butterfly kisses or daddys hands.

I totally know what you mean! The only songs I found from the daughter were just kind of corny too.. I ended up picking a song from the father's perspective, but it was more along the lines of his impression he made on me... It doesn't hold the daughter in high regards but it expresses his love and concern for his daughter which my dad expressed well throughout my life..
"My Little Girl" by Jack Johnson

I've said it before in other posts, but to me, when he says "you've gone and stole my heart and made it your own" I feel myself saying that I've taken all the things he's said and all the love he's given and applied it to my own life, letting him know his concerns were heard. I told him this too. Smiley smile

This one is from the father's view (sorry) but it isn't as well known as Butterfly kisses. I agree with staying away from the overused songs.

    Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman

And from the daughter's point of view there is Father's Eyes by Amy Grant but I must warn you that this is a religious song as well. It is referring to both your earthly and heavenly father. Good luck finding a song!

Mine is totally 70's, but it was #1 when I was born (1977) and it was written by Stevie Wonder when HIS daughter was born...

Isnt she Lovely - Stevie Wonder

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2WzocbSd2w

    here are the lyrics:

    Isn't she lovely

    Isn't she wonderfull

    Isn't she precious

    Less than one minute old

I never thought through love we'd be

Making one as lovely as she

But isn't she lovely made from love

    Isn't she pretty

    Truly the angel's best

    Boy, I'm so happy

    We have been heaven blessed

I can't believe what God has done

through us he's given life to one

But isn't she lovely made from love

It's a little more upbeat, but When I'm Sixty-Four by the Beatles could be a cute one from a daughter's perspective. sort of.

I wanted the same thing for my dad (I ended up having him listen to the song to make sure he liked it and he started crying). I picked out Best Day by Taylor Swift.

@Holly...Wow, you just made me cry. My 24 year old daughter has always said "Landslide" was her song for her father.

@Softail...Thanks for the list. I needed something.

Traditionally, in my family, we do an oldie and corny...Al Martino's "Daddy's Little Girl." I danced with him to it at my first wedding. Parts of me knows in his old age, he will be touched. Other parts of me knows, I haven't been Daddy's Litte Girl for quite some time. So, I need to search too.

How is yor and your dad's relationship (obviously good, as he's giving you away and you're putting serious thought into the dance)? Is it a goofy relationship (can you joke with him and know he'll play along)? Is it a very close relationship (he's the one person- besides hubby- you turn to)? Is it been a newly renewed relationship (haven't been close and now are coming together)? the best I can say is think of what your dad means to you: the first word that pops in your head and roll with a song you associate with it: it doesn't have to say "Daddy" in the lyrics to make you think of what you two share.

My dad is very caring for his family but intentionally behaves aloof and a bit sarcastic: deep down hes a softie who will do anything for family. I'm personally debating between Louis Armstrong "What a wonderful world" and Monty Python's "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"

@Carole, you're welcome, I won't be dancing with my father on my big day since him and I do not have any kind of relationship, so it was nice looking up these songs since I haven't looked at them at all. I will be dancing with a good friend of ours and dancing to You've Got A Friend In Me from Toy Story.

I was trying to think of a none-soppy song for mine because I cry really easily and I don't want to if I can help it! Some I came across where "Sweet Child of Mine" by Sheryll Crow and "Eight Days a Week" by the Beatles (my favourite Beatles song and my Dad loves them, but the lyrics are really fitting!)
