Fashion Advice Needed! My dress + Bridesmaids

Lexi , on September 11, 2019 at 11:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
Hello! Hoping that there’s a fashion major out there or someone who had the same situation or something that can help me out! (Fiancé Beau if you’re reading this stop now or you’ll ruin the dress surprise)

My dress has a halter-style neckline and I’m struggling on finding a bridesmaid neckline that will compliment mine in photos. I love halters so obviously that is what I’m drawn to for their dresses but will it look weird to have different halter necklines?? I’m leaning towards strapless because I feel it’ll compliment my neckline but hoping for some more opinions!

Thanks everyone!

I had a long gown with a sweetheart neckline and my three maids had one halter, one 3/4 sleeve, and a deep v with short dresses. They all looked gorgeous and it was cohesive since they were all the same color—which matched my bouquet. I don’t think you should get too worried about this. Plenty of different things work.

They also have totally different body types and skin tones, so keep in mind one look may not comfortably fit everyone.

I agree with this fully. Make sure they are comfortable 😃 I dont think of dresses and automatically think complimenting necklines. I think that whatever you/they choose would look nice. The focus will be on you most likely anyways. 😄

I don’t think varying neck lines would matter. I think it’s always best to give girls options of which neckline, as some are bustier than others and need more coverage and support. Although I’m not in that category, all my bustier friends always worry about things staying in place all night, especially while dancing.

I agree with PPs, I really wouldn't focus this much on the neckline. I've never compared the bride's gown to the bridesmaids and thought "wow those necklines do not compliment each other." Just go with whatever they're comfortable in.

I think the overall shape, style and embellishments of the dress is more key to complimenting your dress than the neckline. For example, if your dress has a low/open back, your bridesmaids wouldn’t also have a low/open back as, for most brides, that is too similar to your dress. Or if your dress is full lace, then your might pick a bridesmaid dress with some lace accents but not head-to-toe lace. This is why A-line bridesmaid dresses are so popular, they work well with a big ball gown or fitted mermaid.
