Famous person at wedding

Bride2B, on February 10, 2018 at 4:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

I was wondering if anyone has actually had a famous (or at least semi famous) person attend their wedding. Did it take away a lot of attention from the couple?

Depends. If you are talking about a band then no. If a guest then maybe. Though my fiance joked about inviting trump just for the gifts lol. Told him hell no even if it meant a million dollar check.

Haha yeah I have a few on my "send a random invite to" celebrities, with the President being one of them. But I'm talking about someone who we actually know who might come if invited as a guest. I had to google this person, and had never heard of him, and I bet the vast majority of our guests wouldn't recognize him either, but certain guests totally might know him depending on their interests.

Lol if the President really came and insisted on gifting me a million bucks, I would not refuse it!

If you actually know him then why did you have to google him because you never heard of him?

I don't think you actually know them if you had to google them and have never heard of them?

My cousin is a popular NHL player and one of my best friends from high school plays in the NFL (doesn’t start usually but gets some time in most games). They’re both invited but I don’t think anyone who isn’t family will recoganize them or really care. It would be different if like Taylor Swift or some A-lister came

Like a PP said, I think this would only distract from the couple if it was a VERY well known celebrity.

Thanks everyone! Y'all are right...probably not a huge deal because they are not a universally known personally like T Swift or Tom Hanks or something Smiley smile

I used to watch all those tattoo shows! And I know what you mean about just knowing that the person is "somebody". I have a friend who says whenever she's at the airport she people watches, and whenever she sees someone who "looks a little too put together" for being at the airport, she usually does a double take and it is a celebrity of some kind.

I plan on inviting Johnny Depp to ours; he owns the farm 2 doors down from our venue. So I'll let you know in May if a.) he actually shows and b.) if/how it affects the day with someone well known in attendance. While I don't think he will actually show, the thought of Captain Jack Sparrow making an appearance seems pretty awesome.

I have a couple minor celebrities on my invite list. I'm not sure if they'll be able to make it, but they are musicians and don't get recognized much out of context anyway. I kind of love the idea of someone asking one of the greatest rock guitarists in the world what he does for a living.

I was a guest at a wedding with Drew Brees & his wife as it was one of his manager’s wedding. He and his wife were there. People were aware that he was there but I didn’t see anyone bothering him. I believe they sat him with some of the other managers from the firm so he wasn’t at a table with gushing sports fans. They ducked out after dinner before the dancing.

Swoon...Brees is one of my favorites!

it sounds like this won't be as big a deal as I was making it out to be in my head. I guess I'll see what happens!

We're inviting Kristin Chenoweth. She has been a good friend of mine since I was young, and I'm good friends with her musical director who is also invited. I don't know if she'll come, but most of our "crew" is very connected to the Broadway community, and while it might be exciting, I know they will respect her as a guest and still be excited about the wedding aside from that...

Funny you mention Taylor Swift. The girl that had her in her wedding, I believe last year said it was completely fine. They had to have a lot more things done but it wasn't anything crazy. The staff had to sign waivers saying they wouldn't take pictures of ask for autographs, things like that. People didn't mob her, but it might have also been because they knew her from before.

Nope. I guess at that point if the celebrity was invited that means the person is a friend, and a post wouldn't be made about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️I would feel wrong blabbing about it, like along the lines of name dropping, and boasting about living in the same neighborhood (not that this was said here, just an example) as famous people. I would see it as a bit off tack.
