Family Member is a Wedding Planner...utilize her?

Taylor, on August 7, 2019 at 10:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hello!

So I have a distant family member who is somewhat a wedding planner. She hosts weddings in her B&B all the time and helps with all of the day of coordinating. Basically, she knows what she’s doing when it comes to little organizational things!
My family mentioned that we should recruit her help, as we are doing mostly DIY. While I would love and appreciate help from someone who has more insider wedding knowledge, I have some concerns.
1. I’m not very close with her, so I’m not sure if I’d be super comfortable with working with her on my ideas.
2. She’s a bit pushy, so while she would be a great help, I question if she will be controlling.
3. We also have several other “control freaks” in the family, so I stress about all of them butting heads!!
What do you think? Any advice on using a wedding planner who is also a family member?

No no no no no no.

Dont mix family (even distant) and business. Friend-ors rarely work out for the best.

I wouldn't approach her about it. If she offers, it may be nice to at least sit down with her and get idea of like the top 10 things brides overlook or forget or whatever. However, I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable calling up a distant relative I don't have a close relationship with and asking for wedding planning help.

This would be a pass for me. Too much family involvement all around.

I would say don’t use her, your list sounds like reasons why it would stress you out more then help. I’d say if you need a coordinator hire your own. Not worth the drama.

Thanks all! I definitely agree. I’m struggling a lot with when to take my families advice on these things, and when I should absolutely say no!

I think you shouldn't mix family and business, especially if the woman herself did not ask.

I would pass on this, especially if you're not that close to her!
