fake eyelashes

HappilyTogether, on February 22, 2010 at 2:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

I have never used them but I absolutely plan to wear them prior to the wedding. Any suggestions? Like...which brand, which style, do I put mascara on them?? any tips on how to get them on or to stay on or off????

THANKS!! they kind of scare me to be perfectly honest!!

I used to get mine done every 2 weeks for about one year. I never really had any trouble with them falling off. Sometimes they might start falling off right before the two week mark and I never put any mascara on them. I don't know what brand she used. Of course you have to be careful when putting clothes on and if you take a shower of course don't put your face into the stream of water and when you wash your face be very careful not to get that area wet.

If you are not experienced I beg you to go to a salon. That way it won't matter what brand, etc. My eyelashes are almost non-existent but I have discovered a little mascara and a lash curler work miracles. I curl them, apply 2 coats of mascara, wait about 5-10 minutes and then curl them again. It's a little sticky the 2nd time around but it makes a huge difference.

Yes, I definitely agree with ladylee, you need a lot of practice before getting good at putting them on, do not try to put them on yourself if you never have before. You will be frustrated and they will turn out ugly.

3 separate people told me they recommend MAC lashes. But I just couldn't see spending so much when I've used the lashes you can get at Walmart or CVS with great results. I'd go out and buy a few different styles of lashes and try them out before the wedding to see which style you like the best. Then buy a brand new pair and have your make up artist apply them for you. If you are planning on doing the lashes your self then I highly recommend you practice MANY times prior to the wedding to make sure you are square on how to get them on.

    Hi Happily Together,

I believe lashes to be a must for a bride! There are some very good brands out there. MAC products are always high quality. However, you will need to do a lot of practicing, so it could get a bit pricey. Equally good are the Mod lashes or Andrea lashes. You can get them at Walgreens or CVS. They will run you somewhere under $5. They are extremely natural and comfortable. If you are not hiring a professional makeup artist, see if someone is willing to practice with you and put them on you the day of your wedding. They can be a bit tricky to apply on yourself. One trick if putting them on yourself, however, is to place a mirror on a flat surface. Look down into the mirror to get a better idea for placement. You can also apply eyeliner very close to the lashline and use that as a guide. Curl your lashes, put on the fake ones, and apply mascara to blend the two together. You may need to cut the lashes to fit your eye. There are different models, so try several out.

During my "trial" make up she used fake lashes and they looked amazing. I slept with them on and woke up with puffy eyelids but I still plan on wearing them for the wedding. The difference was incredible. But I would not try to put them on myself. I forgot about them ('cause they really do feel natural after a few minutes) and rubbed my eye which made a tiny piece stand up. I couldn't even get that little piece to lie down as perfectly as she had done. If you decide to do them yourself I would practice a ton but maybe buy one bottle of better quality glue since the cheap stuff can irritate your eyes. Plus, I would have someone practice with you in case your nerves get to you the morning of the ceremony and you're a little shaky. Good luck!

I am getting whats called eyelash extentions. They are made to look and feel natural. They last 4-6 weeks before you need a fill. I didnt want to worry about having they fall all of something. I love the MAC ones for going out, but they can come loose and to be honest I have a fear of them coming loose on the big day..so anyway i am getting the extentions at a salon here a week before my wedding...kinda pricy but worth it!

I'm interested in having them too but I'm afraid that my eyes would be glues shut or I'd have some weird reaction to them or the glue.

Z- a little shaky? I can just see a bride just about a apply the glue and someone spooks her and she squirts the whole bottle into her eye.... not good.

I love false eyelashes, but agree, if you are not used to them you should definitel get them done or practice a lot up to the wedding. I wore hem practically every weekend in high school [Dance competitions] and always used the ones you can get for like $4 at CVS. They work just fine and look great if you know how to do them yourself. Otherwise, I have had them done while at MAC getting my makeup done and they are great too.

I'm TOTALLY doing them, but the individual kind, not the whole strip kind (was told that they look REALLY FAKE and unnatural)

Your friend is talking about eyelash extensions that Erin mentioned. They do last about 4 to 6 weeks and look really natural. If you want them just for the day, you can go with the regular eyelashes from the drugstore or MAC (just meant to be worn once). I'm seriously considering the eyelash extensions too.

I wear fake eyelashes EVERYDAY- im an addict!

i think your friend might be talking about the eyelash extensions that salons put in, you have to set up an appt-and then put in individual eyelashes in and then you can't wet your eyes for like a week..or something like that. you can totally just buy a pair and some eyelash glue and practice alot or have someone do it for you. I wear the whole strip and i always have people ask me...are they real or fake? but indivual ones are nice too-a little more of a hassel to put on but if someones doing to for you go for it! indivdual lashes work great for your bottem set of lashes to really make your eyes pop! I curl my lashes first and add one tiny coat of masscara then place the eyelash on top- that why i dont ruin the fake lashes with mascarra or by curling it too much, but by curling and adding the dab of mascarra to my own natural eye lashes they blend right in with the fake! falses already come with a nice curl to them.

The lady that used to do mine, would use individual lashes so they looked more natural.

And not all do the same job, I went to a different lady since my regular lady was on vacation and she put them on way too thick so it depends on the person too on how they will look.

I wear false lashes almost everyday. I use the 3-6 $$ store bought kind from CVS cuz I have like 0 money right now. I wear the strips that you only put on the ends (I have small eyes, so I dont wear the ones that go all the way across). I find them very easy to apply, you just put a small amount of adhesive all the way across, wait 30 sec, and apply directly on your lashline. Tweezers are very useful for doing this! Try it a couple times, add a little mascara, and they look beautiful and last a couple days. I reccomend buying your adhesive from MAC, but CVS carries a great brand called Ardell. I use Ardell Accents.

I have a friend who also uses fake lashes everyday as part of her regular make up routine. She curls her lashes, puts on mascara and then puts the fake lashes on. She can use the same set for about 2 weeks before she buys new. She says that as long as you don't sleep in them, don't put mascara on them, and are careful taking them off and storing them you can use them over and over again for several days/weeks.

Also how 'fake' the lashes look will really depend on which lashes you choose. Some of them are super thick and all the lashes are the same length. Others are a little sparser and the lengths are varied and offer a more natural look. Play with different kinds to see what you like.
