Extremely disappointed with our wedding photos...

We received our photos a few days ago, I was waiting anxiously! And to my surprise, they weren't anywhere near as nice as I thought they would be....many are washed out, off-center, missing details, and lack anything spectacular. The photographer is well-known and has done many weddings..the price was not the most expensive, but not the cheapest either. I regret my choice in photographers.

I have selected a few that are some of the better ones.

Hmmm...I see what you mean, but I think what we have here is a difference between what you wanted and the style of this photographer. Was any postproduction done? Do your wedding photos not match his / her usual work you saw prior to booking?

@Jay-what we saw and what we received-two polar opposites-his style is not stark, blinding or harsh, and that is what we have. I expressed how important the beauty of our tiffany glass church windows were-they are historic, those were not highlighted, it was important to get some nice pics of my dress-that didn't happen. Basic bridal shots weren't even done, at the church I had to ask for group shots of my family. He had little direction.

This makes me wonder if he has subcontractors shooting for him? Part of the process is proper pairing, and if you communicated what you wanted before booking, you'd think he'd be able to provide that or recommend someone else. I mean, I do very minimal posed groups and do not direct throughout the day, but it's a different approach for a specific client. If someone came to me asking for specific details, I'd probably realize we're not a match. Is he saying he did post work? I know some of what you wanted wasn't captured, but let's start with this part.

I'm sorry what is post work? He was the photographer, no other was there.

I don't work with second shooters either. I mean does he book other weddings and send subs out to do them? Maybe not all you saw of his work is his, since you mentioned style mismatch. Post work is standard adjustment work usually in Lightroom. Contrast and color adjustments, shadows, exposure and highlights adjusted as needed. Some use color presets and do some black and white work. Usually blown out whites can be recovered to some degree which is why I asked. I'd ask him if this was part of his workflow. Stuff like removing items is not usually standard, and is done in Photoshop. I do things like that at my discretion, personally.

One example, photo before any adjustments.

No, he doesn't sub work out-that I know of? Good point. Post work, I can ask, at this point, any salvaging of some pictures is worth asking about. I didn't even post the ones from the reception-they were actually worse. Thank you for your valuable input.

Sorry the Lightroom screen cap is so bloody small. If he isn't willing to do it, ask him if he'd grant permission for an outside retoucher to do it. (You have to have that, copyright reasons) But from what I see, a little work can improve them.

Hmmm...really flat lighting and odd colors....how many photos did you get back? Wondering if he "sprayed and prayed" and overshot?

I'm nervous now. I had to find a different photographer that did our e-pic. Meeting the new one in a few weeks. I will definitely ask questions. Before any deposit is given. Sorry this happened to you.

Some of these definitely look like I could have taken them on my iPhone, but... there was a similar thread a couple months ago where a bride was really disappointed with her photos. She emailed the photographer and turns out he accidentally gave her the wrong flash drive with the unedited pictures on it. Hopefully that's what happened here?

I am so sorry OP. You looked gorgeous, but your photographer didn't capture your entire dress with the train... And several pictures are crooked, or the backdrop is not well-composed, even without light/color editing. I've been worried about this myself, we were unhappy with our engagement pictures. A few came out great, but overall not what we expected. Definitely having a chat with her to see if we can get on the same page, if not will see about getting deposit back & hiring my top choice. Ours cost $2200, my top choice was $3200. Could not swallow that!! But maybe it's necessary??
