Escort and place cards ideas please!

Stephanie, on June 9, 2020 at 7:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

Hello,

While our wedding is a year away we are getting a head start on planning. We realized our venue requires us to have place cards with a meal indicator for our guests. To be honest I'm not a fan of that idea, originally we wanted to have a mirror seating chart so that guests know what table but can pick their own seat.

Seems like now we will be having an escort/place card combo. Not sure if that is a thing? That way guests can pick their seat once they get to the table, but at least the escort card will turn into a place card with the meal indictator on it. We are looking for ideas/inspiration on how to make those look nice. Our wedding theme is rustic/Disney. Not cheesy fairytale Disney! haha.

Would love any ideas and suggestions! Also, how do you indicate the meal on these normally? It feels silly to have a meal indicator when only about 5 of our guests have dietary restrictions out of 100.

Thank you!

Some people use stickers or some kind of color coding to indicate the meals

Do a search for escort cards on Pinterest. You can color code them (make each a solid color, different for each selection, if possible which is easier to see than a little stripe of ribbon, etc) and let the venue know what color corresponds to which meal selection so that waiters can see from a distance, also know before they take out plates based on how many of each per table that you would provide to them.

You don't need to assign specific seats. Just assign them to a table and let them pick the seat. Placecards are also easier for guests because there isn't a traffic jam to read the chart which is usually very small and can't always be seen except up close, and helps guests refer to where they need to go if they get sidetracked on the way by someone chatting with them on the way and then forgetting what was listed on the chart. They can just glance at the card and find their table.

It’s super easy to do both! You can have the mirror with the table numbers and next to it a table with place cards grouped by table number or alphabetically! They’ll grab their name card and place it at their seat they choose (best to have a cute sign saying something about “DONT forget your name card!”).

My go to as a wedding planner was to use a stamp to indicate on the card, usually lower corner, so it was easier for waitstaff to know the meal instead of needing a color chart because that’s just another step you have to make sure to relay to your venue (a chicken, cow, carrot or other veggie).

Thanks ya'll! I think we might go with a fastpass idea. Since our theme is Disney and each table will be a different film we love, we'll have the fastpasses be themed to those films. I found someone on Etsy that makes them who actually also made our save the dates! We were just trying to avoid having to pick a seat for each guest so this way they can still pick.

How soon in advance should these be made? I know usually guests don't RSVP till 2 weeks before or so.

Make them based on the guest list that you sent out invites for. Obviously you wouldn't be able to do this last minute because you have to tally the headcount for your venue (usually 2 weeks before the wedding) and track down anyone who forgot to respond (typically 3 weeks before so you have time to call/email and still do your headcount based on when the caterer requires it). You can work on who goes where around the same time your invites go out around 8weeks.

That's a cute idea, but how would you specify a meal that way? It sounds like you could specify a table that way, but I'm not sure how'd you specify a meal that way. I've heard of people putting a sticker of a chicken or fish to represent what meal they will be having or having different colored cards so like all green cards were people who were having the chicken and all were having beef. Our escort cards looked like hockey tickets since my husband is a huge hockey fan. I bought a template from Etsy then had them printed at Office Depot. We just assigned each person a table rather than a specific seat. We waited until we received all of our rsvps to make the escort cards otherwise you aren't really able to make a seating chart or escort cards because you wouldn't know who is actually attending.

From the person who sells these on Etsy they write underneath the table number the meal choice. So vegan, vegetarian etc.

These were our escort cards. Table number was written on the inside and a sticker indicating beef/fish/vegetarian on the outside by their name. They were able to pick their seat at the table. Escort and place cards ideas please! 1

We are doing something similar. Name, table number, and stamp indicating meal. People still can choose where they sit at the table. We bought cute stamps off of Etsy.
