Engraving FH's Gift.

TheLuckiest, on May 20, 2013 at 1:28 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

If any of you got your guy a watch (not saying that I did or did not, in case anyone I know is reading this... Smiley winking but if you did, what did you engrave in it? Hypothetically, in theory, if I were buying a watch for FH as a wedding gift, I would think that I should engrave the date, but that could seem impersonal.

I have 20 characters to use before the engraving price goes up. So far, I'm thinking of centering this on the back of the watch:

"I do."

This is all hypothetical, you know. Smiley winking

Thanks for the advice, gals!

I don't think having the date is impersonal.

What you have is perfectly fine

    For reference:

I have my G.Granddads pocket watch and it just has his initials - 'F.C'S' on it and FH has a G.Grandads cigarette case which has 'All my love, Mildred'

I didn't think about engraving it. I kind of like the idea, actually.

    I'm a little cheesy, but I like...

    "Until the end of time"

...but that's more than 20 with spaces, so, the date is fine, too

Thanks everyone. It's good to know I'm not being bland.

Apparently you can get 20 characters for $20 around here, and that seems pretty reasonable. We're not writing our own vows, so I hope the "I do." will be an adequate reminder years from now that I got him the watch for our wedding. Well, if I were planning to do such a thing, which I may or may not.

Let's just hope he isn't reading this, lol!

Haha @Brittany! I like that too, but I'm afraid the battery would stop or something. I think I'll stick with the date.

If only FH liked Dr. Who too...then I could come up with some kind of timey whimey quote, but alas, he prefers other nerdy themes.

I think that's cute to put "I Do" with the wedding date! Very fitting! Smiley smile

Brittany, I like that idea. After we were engaged, I got my FH a "taken" ring which is engraved on the outside of the band, inside of the band says, "by Robin". He wears it on his right hand, I guess I'm cheesy too.

I probably would put "I love you"
