Engagement Rings: Expectation vs. Reality!

I dont know if we discussed much about rings other than he knows that I dont wear yellow gold at all. That's his preference and I was pleasantly surprised that he went with white gold/titanium. The most special part of this ring is the main stone belonged to his grandmother and is a European cut that they dont make anymore. His mom helped him design a setting in her town. The size wasnt right but I was totally surprised.

FH actually proposed with 2 rings! The 1st one was super unique and I loved it! I had seen it online and loved it. He had planned on purchasing a ring from his family jeweler, but since I had vocalized a love for it he decided to get it. However, he inverted the size- he ordered a 6 instead of a 9 LOL We tried to get it sized, but due to the design it was not possible. His family jeweler inspected it and told him that it wasn’t the best quality ring. I loved the ring but to be honest I hadn’t wanted it as an engagement ring- I just thought it was a pretty right hand ring. I had wanted my ering to be more simple and classic, and I also wanted a very low profile ring so it wouldn’t get knocked around or caught on things. Well it must have been fate that things went wrong with the ring, because I ended up being able to design my ring with FH’s family jeweler and get exactly what I wanted! He was even able to design a setting that “hid” the diamond down in it so that it didn’t stick up on my finger. I adore it and wouldn’t change a thing about it!

I personally would've chosen a solitary gemstone ring. While my e-ring is a solitaire, my FH chose a diamond. He promised me a larger stone for our 10 year anniversary.

Thank you. My fiance purchased my ring shortly after is company rolled out layoffs. Of course he felt a little ashamed, but I swore that I didn't care about the size of the ring.... I just wanted to marry him.

I chose my own ring aha. What I wanted was sooooooo specific that it just wouldn't have been something anyone would have gotten unless told

I thought I wanted a pear shaped diamond. My fiance created this ring for me and I LOVE it!!!

That's so neat how you had free reign! My FH insisted on picking the ring out
