Elopement - do you give a gift?

kLo, on January 4, 2014 at 11:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

One of my work friends recently eloped. It was just the two of them and a couple of witnesses. What is the standard here? Would you still give a gift in this situation? Share your thoughts!

Not necessary. If you are lose and want to support, sure, but definitely not necessary.

Ok! Good to hear. So far I gave a card, but wasn't sure if that was enough. I would love to gift them money but, like everyone, money is tight. I would like to do something for them once we are able to afford it again, but in the meantime, wanted to make sure it wasn't a huge faux pas to not give a gift. Thank you both!

Some couples who elope register because they have a reception once they return home, but if you gave them a nice card, that's plenty. It's just like purchasing a gift/card for a traditional wedding. Smiley smile

A card. If I were friendly with them I would probably include a gift card to fave restaurant to cover nice meals with drinks for the couple

I would give them a card

That said if it was someone in work we would probably all chip in a buy them something small (but that is what my office does not what you should/need to do)

I'd say a card, maybe with a gift card or money. Presumably they eloped because they didn't want to have big wedding hooplah.

I would just give a card. If they registered, and hosted a reception, I would give a gift.

I would give a card but no gift unless I was really close to them.

I would give them a nice card. If they registereds somewhere, maybe a small gift off of the registry.

I would definitely get them a small gift... maybe a picture frame or something along with a card. I always give a gift even if I don't attend the wedding.
