Eating at the wedding.

SraDeCarrillo, on May 28, 2019 at 1:48 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 38
I’ve always heard that brides don’t really get to eat on their wedding day. How true is that? Anyone have a plan in mind so that they actually get to enjoy their wedding food?

That was not my experience at all! But we did a first look so we could greet guests during our cocktail hour and sat at a sweetheart table so we could make sure and enjoy our dinner. We enjoyed all 3 plated courses and didn’t get up once.

When my wedding planner got married they did a first look before the ceremony and all the photos before hand so that during cocktail hour they took 20 minutes in the bridal room to sit and share dinner together without interruptions. I thought that was the smartest thing to do!

Definitely not our experience. We had heard that as well. But we made sure to eat when everyone else was eating. The only time we would get up was to do one of our dances. We had the cocktail hour to greet (we did a first look) and had all night to socialize, so we didn't need to get up and greet people and interrupt their dinner lol.

We are doing a first look so that we can enjoy cocktail hour (which I think is always the best food at the wedding) and mingle with guests before the reception starts.

We ate. After intros we went to our sweetheart table where our DOC put together a plate and delivered it to us. A couple of people came up, but really our guests were so busy with their own dinners that we had time to finish our meals and not have to rush through them.

We did not do a first look, so if you're not planning on doing one rest easy that you'll be able to enjoy your meal!

Not true for us but our DW and local reception were small (15 guests, 50 guests). At our DW, we grabbed a drink but missed the appetizers at cocktail hour because we left to change into our pirate outfits. At our local reception, we are our two-course dinner with everyone else—they all wanted to eat & so did we!

I would think sit & eat while dinner is served, you’ll be fine. If anyone stops by say “let’s catch up after dinner!”

We got to eat a ton! We had a food station/buffet style wedding at a hotel venue. The staff brought us up to make our plates first and we sat at our sweetheart table and ate while the rest of the guests got their food. No one bothered us because they wanted to eat too!

I will literally pass out if I don't eat, so the time people take to walk around or dance I will be sitting my butt down and eating!
But most of guests know I'll get hangry or pass out so they'll probably want me to eat anyway 🤣

We were given an extra 30 minutes to add to the back end of our cocktail hour due to a scheduling conflict. We are not doing a first look so we will miss most/all of cocktail hour. We are going to take some of that extra time we got and have food brought up to the bridal suite where we will enjoy some food and a moment for just us. While everyone is eating we plan to go around to the tables so we can make sure we get a chance to see everyone (200 guests) instead of having to chase people down once they are up and moving around.

No party would ever make me miss a meal... My wedding or not lol.

But, my sister was able to eat.

I had 4 bites. But that's more my personality probably. I threw the wedding because I wanted to hang with the people that were there. I got up to say hi to someone and it just never ended. I also wasn't starving because my girls were awesome at making sure I ate while I was getting ready and right before walking down the aisle. And the caterer brought us food to munch on while we were doing pictures. My husband ate PLENTY! So...again...probably just me. Lol

I've heard that this happens, and read articles about it, etc. I am determined not to let this happen to us. The food is one of the most important things we are planning, and I want to eat it!! I'm not paying all this money to miss my own dinner! I think couples get caught up in greeting and chatting with their guests, and the time just flies. Before they know it, dinner is pretty much over, and the bride and groom have spent the last hour visiting, and not eating.

But after we are introduced, we'll have our first dance, then it will be time for everyone to eat. FH and I have already decided that we will sit and eat at that time. I think that our coordinator is going to bring us our food, before the first tables are announced for the buffet.

At some point after the meal has started, our DJ will open up the dance floor for any/all who want to dance. If FH are still eating, so be it. We both want to enjoy the food we picked out, and greeting and chatting will happen after.

That's one of the questions I asked our caterer. She said since we are doing passed horderves, she would ensure the bridal party and me and FH would get food while doing pictures during cocktail hour. She also stated that she makes sure the bride and groom get served during the reception and they make to go boxes for us as well. We will definitely be eating!! lol

We haven't had our wedding yet, but in 2017 we had a graduation party. It was at our home, with about 50 guests. We had appetizers & it was catered, neither of us ate much at all. It was just nonstop greeting & talking & seeing people so we didn't have any time. Our caterer said she will bring us an appetizer plate right after pictures so we can get a few bites then our plates will be at our table ready while other guests go get their buffet plates!

You may not be able to sit down the whole time during dinner, but make sure someone is bringing you water and finger foods. Thankfully our venue will assign us a staff member to make sure we're taken care of during the day.

At my friend's wedding she didn't eat at all as we packed her a doggie bag.

I love to eat... I literally live to eat. And I barely got to eat on my wedding day. I ate my whole salad, but only had time to eat half of my entrée. This was due to my 200 guest list and wanting to go around to the tables to take pictures and say hello. I didn't love that, but I had heard from guests that they thought that was very nice. And sadly, in some cases, that was the only time I saw some of the guests. I did not get any of my cake though other than what I cut. This was truly disappointing as the cake we cut was the groom's flavor and my flavor was the one being cut from the kitchen. Total bummer. I swore that I would never be that bride that doesn't get to eat their cake, but then I was. Make sure you get to eat your cake!!!

I imagine this will happen to me, because when I'm stressed, I don't have an appetite. I plan on eating a big brunch before I start getting ready. My FH will definitely make sure I eat lol.

I hear that all the time as well from family members. When it comes down to it, I’m definitely gonna try and force myself to eat something, but probably not too much if people keep taking pictures afterwards. If you don’t get to eat at all there’s always a quick midnight run to an open place I guess which would make for some funny photos as well.

It shouldn’t happen because the bride and groom get served first. However it usually happens because the couple either gets up (away from their plates) and start circling and talking with guests... Or guests come up to the couple and begin chatting, so they don’t get to consistently eat and the next thing you know it’s time for something else on the timeline.

We’re doing the same. I don’t want to miss anything that we paid for and planned.... And cocktail hour is such a great time. If anything, we might miss 15 to 20 minutes of it. But that’s it!
