Easy Finger Food Ideas (Pre-Reception)

Nano, on October 15, 2015 at 3:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

We thought it would be nice to offer some finger foods for people to enjoy after the wedding. We're thinking of setting things up outside on picnic tables outside the church. There's about an hour between the ceremony end and reception start time and we're avoiding a cocktail hour for budget reasons...

What would be some easy finger foods to offer? Preferably something that doesn't require silverware to eat. I've been thinking of fruit kebabs, cookies, chips and salsa.... It's a fairly simple wedding, so we don't need anything fancy.

Any suggestions?

I would do some cheese and crackers!

IMO, an hour wait time isn't really that bad--I wouldn't expect there to be food during that time but think it is very generous/thoughtful of you to offer it. I'm sure what you listed would hold people over until dinner (especially assuming it would start sooner since there is no cocktail hour?)

Cheese, pepperoni and crackers are always a good way to go. A veggie tray would be good too!

Kebabs of any kind are really labor intensive.

    Chips and salsa and quacamole

    Bruscetta with toasts

    Hummus with pita chips

Thank you all for the suggestions!

Cheese and crackers seem like quite the popular choice and I'll try to avoid labor intensive things like kebabs. I'm sure we don't want to stay up until the wee hours of the morning skewering fruit Smiley tongue

At my brothers wedding they did an "Apple Bar" they had a bunch of different types of apple cut up so people could try the different type. They also had a cheese table with some pretty awesome cheeses to mix with the apples!

@Ekab - how did they keep the apples from browning?

We are planning to put out cheese boards for the cocktail hour. We'll get some fruit, crackers, jams, nuts, and cheeses and just spread them out on big wooden boards.

I would do a cheese and meat tray (different types of cheese cubes, pepperoni, salami, etc), a veggie tray, and hummus with pita chips.

@Nicole - I've never tried it (I'm not that into apples), but lemon juice is supposed to help keep apples from browning.

Agree with all of the food suggestions above! Instead of fruit kebobs, you could just put out bowls/platters of fruit with a nice fruit dip! There's a marshmallow fruit dip recipe I found online that was fantastic.
