Early Gift - when to send thank you?

Alexa, on August 1, 2022 at 6:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
We are getting married in December (haven’t even sent invitations yet!) and just received a gift from distant cousins. Do I send a thank you now or wait until after the wedding? I’m not even sure if they are coming!

Always send a thank you within two weeks if you receive gifts before your wedding happens. It lets the person know that their gift made it into your possession (mail and delivery these days is a mess) and it’s good etiquette.
Also even if a person is not coming to the wedding, a thank you note should be sent for any and every gift. We even had people NOT invited to our wedding give us gifts. We sent them a thank you note as well.

I sent thank yous for gifts as they came in. It was just easier to keep track of that way instead of waiting and potentially forgetting someone! Also it lets them know you received it!

Send a thank you note immediately. However do not open or use the gift until after the wedding.

Send it now so you have one less card to write later!

Send the thank you now, for sure.
