Early August brides... postponing???

Hanna, on May 13, 2020 at 12:11 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7
I am set to get married August 1st. In PA we are on lockdown until June 4th, which could be extended again depending on the number of positive cases. Our governor is using three phase plan to reopen. Even if we are in the yellow phase (gathering of 25 or less, some businesses can reopen but hair salons and restaurants still cannot have dine in services, etc) I am afraid of how long the yellow phase will last.

we still haven’t been told how we move from yellow to green, but green involved social distancing and following CDC recs. My fear is that even if we are green, people will have to wear masks and people will be afraid to attend the wedding
Sorry for the long post but I really just need advice and I wanted to know what other August brides are thinking
TIA!

I’m an August 1st bride too. I’m keeping the date but doing a super small ceremony. To many what If’s to keep the original plan in play. We are going to celebrate big time later... keeping this show on the road I’m ready to be a Mrs!

I’m August 8th! Right now we are going forward as planned. I’m in Missouri and we slowly started opening last week. My venue didn’t think we’d have issues. But like you said we could be green but people would be scared to show up.

I'm a July 25th bride - In late April our venue was confident they would be up and running by late June, but we just received an email last night that they will be contacting us to discuss setting up a Plan B. I think the hardest part is just not knowing what things will be like by your wedding date. I'd really much prefer to keep my wedding date, but my fear is that any gathering we have, even if it is legal, will have to take social distancing into account. The idea of people wearing masks, not wanting to hug or dance or visit just makes me sad. I am not sure what we will ultimately end up doing, but I'm grateful that my venue is finally letting us pick a Plan B. I keep reading about brides who express so much relief when they do this and then make the decision - I hope I do too.

We are leaning more and more towards postponing our August 8th wedding. We live in Florida which has slowly started to reopen but are getting married back home in NJ which is still pretty locked down. We have to decide by the end of this week but from the looks of it, we'll need to push back the reception to 2021. We are still going back home to get married on our original date of 8/8/20 but with our immediate family only and have a vow renewal in August of 2021.

I'm August and in PA too! I'm moving forward as planned. I even ordered my invitations this week and planning to mail them soon. I have an insert saying to check our website for updates if we need to postpone. I honestly feel like there's nothing else we can do but just keep planning. My venue won't let me know if we need to postpone till 1st week of July at the latest, and I can't wait that long to send invitations if it's still happening.

    Hi Hanna,

There are so many unknowns right now! The general consensus for August is that couples should continue to monitor the situation and try to make a decision by the end of May. It's basically a waiting game right now. You're certainly not alone in your concern. Here's a discussion with another August bride in PA: August wedding.

I’m August 14th in Wisconsin, so we are basically hoping and praying that their opening that just started goes well! We’re staying the course for now, and we decided we’d have our wedding as long as we can have at least 50 people.
