They say size matters, right? What is the average center stone size for an engagement ring? I got a 2.5 princess cut (4 c's almost as good as you can get) in a platinum band with an additional carat worth of round brilliant cut (6 stones total). What is the average center stone size for an engagement ring?

I got a 2.5 princess cut (4 c's almost as good as you can get) in a platinum band with an additional carat worth of round brilliant cut (6 stones total).

It shines like crazy, but the more I look at it the more I think it's too small.

I'm a guy. We aren't supposed to know these things lol. Am I just letting nerves get the best of me? Is a flawless 2.5 center (3.5 total) average? Should I go bigger?

My ring is a 1.9 carat for the center stone. I LOVE my ring and I've gotten tons of compliments on it- from "wow, that's huge!!!" To "are you marrying an investment banker?" Lol.

A 2.5 carat must be gorgeous!

    Here's a pic of mine.

You sound ridiculous. Unless you live on Mars, you would know that 2.5 carats is huge and much larger than the average size ring. Love doesn't equate to the size of a diamond. The more you try to convince this audience you aren't bragging, the more conceited you sound. Your responses are even braggy.

You say that you could pick a stone off the side of the road and she'd be happy so why are you so concerned about the size? 2.5 carats is huge and you can tell that just by looking at it..you don't need to be an expert. It sounds like you're just trying to brag in my opinion.

Ha. While yah my ring is huge, sometimes I don't like the attention it draws- like random comments from a clerk at Macy's to vendors seeing the ring and probably jacking up their prices lol.

I actually think 2.5 carats is too large, unless your girlfriend has shown you some rings she likes or you've had a discussion and you know that's her style. That is A LOT of ring.

Speaking from my personal perspective, a ring that size would make me feel super uncomfortable for a variety of reasons. For reference, my ring is 1.5 carats. I can't imagine wearing anything larger than that.

    ETA words. It's early.

This thread is ridiculous. "I hate when people make comments about how big my diamond is." Really?

Btw this is my ring because my husband knows me so well!

The 2.5 carat ring must be lovely, but I think the vast majority of girls would be completely content with a 1 carat or less.

I never wanted a big ring, and flipped my sh*t when I got the appraisal in the mail.

Granted I love mine, but still!

The size doesn't matter, the symbol of your love does. I have a tiny .3 ct ring that was passed down to me from my mom- FH asked permission and didn't have money at the time.

Engagements and weddings aren't a time to get into an insane amount of debt. While a larger ct size is great for an e-ring, think about what the true message is- a symbol for your love and dedication.

@Melanie I wish mine & FH's families had heirlooms like that. That must feel really special!

@Josh, I think you pick a good ring. Mine is slightly bigger 2.76 but FH said its only because I never ask him for anything.

He took me to Kay 3 times to show him what type of ring I like, there was one that I loved when the sales representative told me it was $4k I just tell him to forget about it and get a cheaper one.

I didn't care if the ring came from Amazon or Walmart. Because of that he got me a ring that cost $10,000.

Don't get me wrong I loveeeee the ring but I still think it's too expensive. I love him and I just want to be with him. He said a woman who never ask for anything deserve everything, I'm forever grateful for that.

You make a good CHOICE, if she complains then she don't deserve one at all.

So since I ask my husband for a lot....like cheesecake, soda, and Doritos, does this mean my ring should be tiny?

This thread is tacky as hell lol.

You need to ask yourself if she is going to love it because of the size or because you gave it to her. What does she do for a living? Is the ring going to get in the way? Is it going to catch and snag on everything she is near? What is her hand size? Is it a way for you to "show off", "Look what I can buy for my FW"?

I have small hands (ring size 4.75) even one carat rings felt too big for me. I do have a one carat, but it's a ruby, because that's what I wanted. The feelings and emotions behind rings are what makes then special, not the size or grade of the stone.

Josh, assuming you're not a troll.....

If she (or he) loves you and wants to marry you, you can propose with a pipe cleaner. It's not about the ring. It's about the partner.

My ring is .25 carat, and it was my moms e-ring. I actually don't like big rings (they get in my way), so this is perfect. If you honestly think that size matters, you're in need of a reality check.
