They say size matters, right? What is the average center stone size for an engagement ring? What is the average center stone size for an engagement ring?

I got a 2.5 princess cut (4 c's almost as good as you can get) in a platinum band with an additional carat worth of round brilliant cut (6 stones total).

It shines like crazy, but the more I look at it the more I think it's too small.

I'm a guy. We aren't supposed to know these things lol. Am I just letting nerves get the best of me? Is a flawless 2.5 center (3.5 total) average? Should I go bigger?

Mine is slightly over two carats (center stone) and I wouldn't want any larger. With the diamonds on the side and the band with matching/same sized diamonds it is almost way too big. You did just fine. She will love it and be tickled pink. 1 carat is the average sized "really nice" center stone. Not that size matters, because honestly, I care more about the relationship than the material crap.

Celia is right. My FH actually did propose with pipe cleaners. I still have and cherish that ring!

Is she has small hands that could be too big. I have baby hands and I tried my friends insanely big ring on and it looked like I was wearing costume jewelry. My ring is small, it wasn't an insane amount of money because my FH is 22 and we're saving money for a house, but he picked it out himself and that's what I love the most about it (and it's the exact cut I had mentioned once to him and it was cute he remembered haha)

This post is ridiculous. There's no way OP actually went through the whole process of buying the ring he describes without knowing it's huge and much more expensive than average. He basically made an account to come here and brag about it. I wouldn't even call it a humble brag. It's more like a flat out brag.

I will commend you for using Blue Nile for a conflict free diamond. if you are going big then you do want quality because it is obvious when someone goes for size and not quality. do your research with a professional jeweler and talk budget with your partner for bigger picture- entire cost of wedding, new cars, house items because the ring is a big ticket item and you'll be combining resources.

Most people work hard for what they have on this site OP. The ring sounds gorgeous and I do hope you let us peek at it! When are you planning on proposing?

Side note: maybe he's sleeping. He did post at 2am.

If you're going to come on here and brag about this giant ring at least post a picture to go with it!

You know it's huge and expensive. You also know what your girlfriend likes. Personally I wouldn't want a giant ring because then I couldn't wear it all the time.

Can you even see a 2.5 carat ring without a magnifying glass? I told FH I just wouldn't accept without at least 10 carats, so he outdid himself with 35...

Seriously though, if she or any other woman thinks a 2.5 carat ring is "too small," she's not worth marrying.

From the looks of it doesn't look like op is coming back. I honestly don't even know the size of my ring nor do I care. All I know is that it came from the heart. That's what should matter most to her.

    Do you have a picture?

Honestly, no bigger isn't always better. If you can afford a nice ring, do it. It's the love that matters. You should know if you asked her with nothing she would say yes. The fact you can give her a nice ring is just a bonus

On the left is a 2.5 carat solitaire. On the right is my ring. It's .76 carats. It cost $650. And I honestly like mine better. Because my husband chose it. Because he kept in mind what I liked. Because it was a symbol of our love not our wallets.

This thread is hilarious! Yea it must be such a hassle when people comment on how big your diamond is lol. Everyone has their own taste..so many women on here don't even like diamonds for their e rings so you would have to know what she likes. And let's be honest, even if you know nothing about diamonds, you know that's not too small.

ETA Janeen love it!! I'd rather have cheesecake for the rest of my life and a small diamond

My center stone is 1.2 Ct, no halo but a pave band, not sure what the band brings the total weight to. That ring sounds plenty big enough to me, my stone seems to get caught one everything.

Each person is different. We picked out rings Together and I went for something totally different than I thought I wanted at half the budget. ...I jyst felt a zing when I tried it on and knew it was the one. .. just like my FH. personally 2.5 is too big to wear. .. I'd get it caught in everything. But if you have the money and she likes bling. ... why not.
