Dropping middle names or maiden names? Keeping all?

Amber, on February 27, 2014 at 6:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 53

I'm trying to figure out which name I'm going drop when I take FH's name.

At first, I thought I would become Amber Hinton Nelson. Then, my mom told me that she kept her middle name, got rid of the maiden and became Judith Ann Hinton.

I've thought about keeping all of my names which would be crazy since I have 2 middles. My name would become Amber Marie Malvina Hinton Nelson....what a mouthful lol! Then again, my great-grandmother's name was May Louise Vista Viola Dorianne Bailey Hinton!

What are you ladies choosing to do?

I'm in the same boat! I just can't decide. I want to keep my middle name and have his last name, but I want to keep my last name a part of me. If that makes sense lol

I have no problem with taking my FH's last name, but my only hesitation is that the field I work in is small (everybody knows each other) and I've worked hard to make a good name for myself.

My solution is to make my old last name, my new middle name. Plus I hate my current middle name, so its win-win Smiley smile

I like my middle name. I hate my last name.

I will be keeping my middle name and dropping my maiden name entirely.

Welcome to my world!! I also have two middle names, and almost two years married the only place I've changed my name is FB.

I can't bring myself to get rid of either of my middle names, or my maiden name, so eventually I'll do the paperwork to hyphenate and just have a freakishly long name!

.... I also find that it doesn't help that my family is much more of a "family unit" and his is very disconnected. He doesn't speak to his father, and while I love my hubby and that includes his name, it feels weird giving up a "family" name for a name that belongs to a man who hasn't bothered to call in son in nearly 10 years. We have talked about incorporating his mothers maiden name because of this, but he doesn't *really* want to change his last name, I don't think.

I'm the same way Jessica! My middle names are from my grandmothers and with my dad being gone, I can't imagine taking his name off either!

I'm still deciding about this too. My middle name is the same middle name of my grandma who I'm close to and it's very unique. I am attached to my last name too but it's long so I feel like I would keep my middle name and drop my maiden name and take FH's last name. I'm still deciding though! Maybe I'll give one of our kids my maiden name as a middle name, haha!

I'm dropping my last name. Each half of my last name is eight letters long (16 letters total; they hyphenated my last name when I born). FH's last name is pretty and only six letters long. I never had a middle name so I might get creative and give myself one for the heck of it.

I have to hyphenate my last name because of work reasons. Everyone knows me by my maiden name so it would be detrimental for me to drop it.

I'm taking her name. I don't have any attachment to my current last name and I just really love the way Sarah Lane sounds.

I don't have a middle name. I dropped my maiden name & took his surname. I love the way it sounds, Mrs. Robin Valentine.

I'm taking his last name - I thought about using my maiden name as well, but my full first name is Laura Jane. Over the years I've dropped the Jane and just use Laura. I think it would be too much to use both of our last names, so as much as I love mine, I'm giving it up and taking his.
