Driving Around After...

Lisa, on March 21, 2012 at 8:00 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10

Is anyone driving around with horn honking after ceremony for 15 minutes to let the town know they got married? FI wants to do this and I'm not really on board with the idea. What do you think?

Great question! Funny, I was just thinking about this the other night for my daughter.

I am 50 and was married the first time around in 1982. We did it. However, where I live now, I have yet to see it done.

I am real curious to read the answers. Thanks for asking them!

I think it is a fun idea, but I would definitely check the town ordinances first. A friend of mine did this and they got pulled over and ticketed for disturbing the peace and "unlawful use of a horn". Dead serious!

I've never heard of this... Is it more of a small town thing?

I've always lived in Suburbia or close to major cities, so I don't think "the town" would care very much that I was married.

When I lived in a small town in Alaska for 6 months, I really enjoyed the tiny community environment. I could totally picture something like this in a town like that.

I haven't heard of this either. We got married in a bigger town (Federal Way, WA) and I dont think people would take kindly to us honking our horn for 15 minutes.

Where I am from, this would probably be the type of thing that would land you in jail. I never heard of doing this though. Sounds like it could be fun! You get enough attention when you are driving around in a limo that is decorated, or going out in your wedding dress like I did!

Haha, where I am from, this is the kind of thing that would get your car keyed. Or your tires shot out. And I live in a small town lol.

And like Julean mentioned, most places have noise laws. Unlawful horn use can get you into trouble. Not big trouble, but more trouble than you want to deal with on the wedding day.

Noise laws during the day? I am from a small town and this is done alllll the time, if I was getting married there I would totally do it! I now live in a small city and I have seen it done occasionally, but really its just the wedding parties driving from the church to get pictures done kind of thing. We are not doing it because we will get married in our hall then stay there until the party is done, when we leave at 1am for the hotel, then I can see it being a big no no! lol

Wow. My how times have changed. Years ago it is what used to be done after people got married there would be a processional with the married couple's car decorated with streamers and tulle balls and a just married sign all over riding out in front just through the neighborhoods on the way to your photograph site or reception just blowing the horn repeatedly. I hadn't thought about it until I saw this question but I haven't seen that done in years. We did this when I first got married. My how times have changed.

We got enough attention with two women in full wedding regalia in one minivan. LOL
