Hi All! We got engaged in October, yay! I am planning my wedding in September and I am looking at reception venues. I need help as I have been to many weddings and some have free flowing booze ( which we are not doing) and I have seen drink tickets ( not sure if this is tacky) my real question is some places charge per person per hour for a bartender and it is as much as the food! Does anyone have a suggestion how we can cut the cost down on the alcohol as I don't mind paying for wine on the table ( maybe 2 drinks per person) but after that they are on their own.....

Thank you!

You are not allowed to say "deuces" if you can't spell it.

    Pretty sure that's a law.

Honestly, do people not look into the price of alcohol before booking a venue? When we met with our caterer (who is also doing our bar) I was like ya ya ya the food sounds great BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BOOZE?

I can't imagine booking somewhere and then later being like "oh darn, alcohol is too expensive here! Guess we can't have it!"

Nothing like using a word that makes you sound stupid already, and then misspelling it.

I also can't imagine who the hell wants to go to a wedding where booze isn't flowing. If I'm dressing up and buying you a present, I don't want to spend the night sitting in a chair, staring at the wall and pretending to have fun. Don't make me buy my own fun.

@Dana- we are only doing beer and wine, but we know that very few of our guests are liquor drinkers (less than 10, I think), and we are not liquor drinkers.

I know the cost of an open bar can be outrageous, which is why I would not even consider venues where we could not use our own catering, booze, etc. We hired a bartender through our caterer who will serve the drinks we purchase at Costco.

By buying our own alcohol we're going to provide "free flowing booze" for 200 people for under 1000 dollars. This includes the bartenders that will be serving our guests.

Please do have a cash bar though. Trust me when I say that if you do, people will continue to talk about your wedding for years.

I see the anti cash bar committee handled this well. Per usual.

    And as for mean girls-

I bought my own alcohol, no hard alcohol. How are you pulling off 1k for 200 ppl? I agree that it is more affordable but that # sounds a bit low.

A little late to the game here, and probably TMI, but whenever someone says "deuce" or "deuces," all I can think of is poop. Seriously. My brother, when we were growing up, used to say he had to go drop a deuce. So now all I can think of is poop! Maybe Veronica just really needed to use the facilities.

Simple Seamstress, we did a variety of beer (some craft) and wine for about $550 for 100 guests and we're in an expensive area (NJ). If she got a good deal on liquor and didn't go super high level, it's doable.

FWIW, we're still drinking some of the leftover beer and wine (could return unopened wine, but nothing else).
