Dress with a Long Train...What to do with the train at the reception?

AB, on March 21, 2012 at 10:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 15

Ok so my wedding dress has a super long train which will be fine for the ceremony, but IDK what to do with it at the reception I was thinking of getting an arm strap added to the bottom of the dress, but I don't know if that will be heavy (or weird) thoughts ladies? Btw I only have to days and a wake up until the wedding Smiley smile!!!!

Is there a reason you didn't have a bustle added to it?

I'm thinking it might be too late to have your seamstress put in bustle loops/ties to hold the train up off the ground.

An arm strap might be your only solution now. Otherwise people will be stepping on your train all night. They might trip you or rip your dress.

    ~ congrats ~

good luck these last few days!!!!

Any way you can have someone do an overbustle or something not complicated but secure? Carrying it with an arm strap all night might be cumbersome.

Wow, 3 days away? I also think you won't be able to find a seamstress to do it for you. If you can't, go with the arm strap. Or, give a shout out to our resident dress makers.....Clare and/or Julie. They may have a solution.

    Have an awesome day!

Get your dress to a seamstress asap! It might be to late to add a bustle but maybe you could get a arm strap added.

How long and heavy is your train? It might get heavy and annoying on an arm strap. You can try to go to your local dry cleaners...their seamstress might be able to help you on such short notice.

Mytrain is slightly longer and heavier as well, I could not imagine having to hold it up all night... I had buttons put in place for mu bustle and she was really fast so you may have time Smiley smile

My seamstress owns her own shop and she's doing my bodice alterations at the last minute b/c she can. It probably depends on the shop. It doesn't hurt to ask - I would just call your seamstress and see what they can do.

I would do a practice run with any kind of homemade bustle you want to try at the reception. You don't want safety pins poking you in the booty or snapping open and ripping the back of your dress. I would think an arm loop might be a safer option......
