Dress shopping when you know your body will drastically change?

Bri, on July 19, 2019 at 9:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
My ceremony is 11 months out. I’m moving across the country in September, but was told I may have a pituitary or adrenal gland tumor that’s leaking cortisol. Once I move, I need to get set up with a GP to refer me to the research hospital for testing. If they catch this thing, I’ll need brain surgery or chemo, depending on if it’s caused by a tumor or just abnormal cells. Thankfully, it’s not cancerous. But the result of treatment would not only be a drastic weight loss, but a drastic change in weight distribution. I have no clue which dress shapes will look good on me because I don’t know what my proportions will be for another 5 months at least.

i keep seeing to dress shop a year in advance. Our engagement will only be a year total. How screwed am I if I wait til after I recover from surgery to shop?

Places like david’s bridal and bhldn have dresses that come in a lot quicker! There are also off the rack options like sample dresses that you can take home that day. So you won’t have your pick of any dress in any bridal store if you wait but you’ll definitely be able to find something. Sending you good thoughts for your health! I’m so sorry you’re going thru this.

Hoping for the best possible outcome for your health! As pp said places like David's bridal get their dresses in a lot faster that local boutiques. I bought/ordered my dress from DB and it was in two weeks later. I know that's not always going to be the case but... My advice would be to take care of you, get your body healthy then focus on finding a dress that is as amazing as you are. Best of luck!

First of all, I really hope everything goes well with the doctor. Take care of yourself first!

I am just a procrastinator and was also trying to drop some weight. I waited until my wedding was 6 months out to order my dress and they say it will come
in with plenty of time to spare. I wouldn’t push it much further than 6 months though unless you would consider buying a rack dress!

If it helps, I’m paying for everything commitment ceremony related so my budget is super low. Like $2,000 for the entire thing and $1,000 are our flights. So my dress budget is like $150, and I’m doing light grey so I may not need to go to a bridal store. Might get away with the prom dress section

First if all, good luck with everything in your health situation and I hope it is sorted quickly for you.

If you are doing might grey, you may even be able to go to a Macy's or Nordstrom type store and get it off the rack. Another option is a bridal or formal consignment shop

Good luck, wishing you good Health.
I'd see if you can find a David's bridal and ask how fast they can get it or do off the rack options. Or alternatively try on prom dresses! It sounds silly but nobody will know but you the difference between a prom gown and a bridal one.

Best of luck with your health! I also recommend David’s Bridal for a quick turn around. I went there in June 28th and picked out my dress, they quoted me a month and a half for delivery, and my dress arrived yesterday 3 weeks after I ordered it.
