Dress regrets- Help!

Christina, on October 2, 2019 at 8:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 50
So for some background, I’m having a Halloween wedding next year! I’ve had the idea for quite sometime and was super excited to do a black dress. I found what I thought was the perfect dress and I loved it and bought it the same day with confindence. Now I still love my dress, however I’m starting to regret going with a black dress and wish I had gone with a white dress and added other elements of the gothic vibes I’m going for in accessories and decor. Photo of dress for reference.

Back of dress. Truly I love it, but unsure now if I should’ve gone with black

I love the dress, it looks beautiful on you! As far as whether you should've gone with black or white, that's totally up to you on how committed you want to be to the gothic theme through your dress. Is there anyway you could cancel the order for now until you have more time to think on it?

I fully took the dress home right off the rack that day and they have a no return policy! So I feel like I’m definitely committed to it but could make something work if I really wanted to make the switch

I'm in the same boat right now, I've purchased my dress fully and it's in a closet at home right now. I know I like my dress, but I still feel like it's not what I REALLY wanted. So right now I'm in the process of ordering sample dresses from Azazie to try on. The majority of their wedding dresses are less than $500 and it's only $15 (including shipping both ways) to get a sample dress to try. If you're unsure about wearing a white dress, I'd see if you find anything you like on there and order a couple samples to see how you feel!

What about using it as a reception dress and getting another for the ceremony? Or maybe selling it, if you needed to and really wanted to get another one.

Oh my, that is so beautiful!! Is it possible/in your budget, to purchase a white dress for your ceremony and change into the black on for your reception?

Also, I doubted my dress until the alterations appointment. Once we worked on the bustle and all the other details and embellishments, it feels like my dress now. It's basically been redone. The original dress was just an outline lol

I went through this feeling the last few weeks and ended up purchasing a new dress on Friday.. Honestly, I am SO glad I made the change! My philosophy during the planning process is that if something keeps coming to surface/I become unsure of a decision, it means I need to re-evaluate my decision and adjust.. this hasn't happen a lot, but we return my FH's ring, I bought a new dress and I added a videographer as time has gone on..

I think the dress is lovely... I’ve never seen a bride wear a black dress at a wedding so it would definitely be different. I, personally, would have gone with a white dress with black elements to tie it into the theme just so it would look like a “wedding” dress... but I still think the black dress will give the gothic wedding vibe especially if you add a black veil

I think this looks amazing. Are you questioning the choice of a black dress or is your family?

I can see maybe looking for a second (white) dress if you really have doubts. I hope you would still wear this as you have thought about it for so long.

Your dress is amazing and I love the idea of a Halloween wedding!

I think you can still incorporate some traditional bridal elements to make you feel like a bride.

How about this ombre black veil?

I also think some vintage bridal jewelry will give you that bridal feel while going with your gothic theme.

It is completely up to you but I think that dress is gorgeous. Would those traditional elements help make you feel like a bride. Can you find a white dress to wear for the ceremony, then change into the black one for the reception?

I love it. You look amazing. Your pictures will be stunning. I think it's perfect for a Halloween wedding.

I wish I had the confidence to go with a black dress. It would be more me. I wear black every. day. However, I've had trouble getting my family to stop bothering me about letting my hair be gray (I'm 31 with about 40% gray hair) ..i can't imagine the disappointment/backlash I would face if I wore a black dress. It wasn't worth it to me. I didn't even try one on. Now..if we had our wedding on Halloween I would definitely go for it.

I think the veil and something like the third necklace Roxana posted would be great for adding a bridal feel.

I would still keep that to wear to a formal event if you decide to end up going more traditional white. That being said, a white veil on a black dress will make it look significantly more bridal.

Why are you starting to have doubts? I'm only asking because I've noticed when people start to doubt something, they have someone else's voice telling them that persons vision of what they "should" have.

I think it's awesome that you're having a Halloween wedding and that dress is gorgeous... let us know whatever you decide to do. I'd love to hear what your final decision is. Good luck and happy planning. 🍀
