Dress is too short. Photo added.

Cassandra, on July 6, 2016 at 11:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 45

36 days out and did my final dress fitting and it's at least 2 inches too short. Seamstress cut off "excess" fabric, so no going back. I suggested altering it to tea or knee length and foregoing the train and the seamstress sounds super angry. The even worse part of this: the seamstress is a close friend who is also in my bridal party. I don't have a photo of it now, but my MOH saw it on me and said: "Oh my god, that is way not good." Edit: it's 2 inches too short WITHOUT shoes on.

Noooooooooo! I know sometimes brides opt to have their dresses just a tad short so their shoes are visible. Is there any hope that it would look okay with your shoes peeking out, or might the 2" be showing too much if you've got a heel that's adding to the distance between the front hem and the ground? I know I've heard of this being done intentionally, and I'm wondering if you could rock it like you wanted to show off your shoes the whole time.

Is there a waist seam and hem where a little length could be gotten back? Even 3/4 of an inch could make a real difference (I would take it to a pro at this point, NOT your friend)

Yeah, can you show us pictures? This seems awful but it's just fabric, it CAN be saved, somehow. What about colored crinoline on the bottom?

ETA: if you have crinolines already...take them out for more length.

Ouch. I agree with PPs mine is about a 1/2in to an inch short in the front so my pink heels peek out every so often. Would it work to look international?

I would try to find coordinating lace and add it to the bottom from underneath, perhaps with a crinoline. Honestly, even if it will piss her off at this point you need to have whatever fix you go with done by a pro.

I was thinking about getting my dress hemmed but I decided not to for this reason.

I would take it to an actual seamstress and see what they say. It's probably going to cost you, but that's a very good reason to NOT use friendors.

Eta: I do a lot of sewing and have done some complex pieces myself, but even I wasn't going to touch the big alterations on my wedding dresses. Bustles? Sure. Adding the corset back, adjusting the bodice, and hemming? Nope. I'll take it to someone that does it for a living. That way if it gets screwed up, THEY are liable.

I know this probably doesn't help much now, but my principle is "pay someone for a job, so if things go wrong you have every right to demand things".

Depending on the dress style, perhaps you can add an extra layer either on top or underneath to give it both volume and length to hide the shoes? But definitely get that done at a pro, as I see your wedding is a month away... you still have some time, but this is a problem you're going to have to invest a bit of money in.

Take it to a pro and see what they can do and see if they can give you some ideas to fix it. Good luck. Side note: Would love to see pics of your dress! I love me some wedding dresses Smiley smile

Omg I would be so pissed! You even offering to wear a tea length dress shoes you are much more gracious than I am. I agree with PP take it for a 2nd opinion. Maybe lace can be added?
