Dress help!

Carolynne, on February 4, 2021 at 10:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 56
My bridesmaids and family helped me pick out the "dress" yet failed to disclose it didn't actually fit in the back! When I took it to the alteration shop they said it could not be altered without taking away from the dress. I've literally been starving myself and haven't lost weight. I tried healthy eating. I've tried everything. What can be done with this dress?? I don't sleep at night. I want to elope. Please help 😭😭Dress help! 1

I can't believe no one told you. That's crazy. What does the shop mean by that they can't alter it without taking away from the dress?.

The belt has no give. So not only would they have to add fabric but they'd have to add to the belt.

Oh okay. Did your family and friends not realize you were getting the dress in the size you tried on? Because a lot of times they will have you try on a sample dress and it might not in the size you plan on purchasing it in. My advice is to see if you can take it to another seamstress for a second opinion.

No, they knew it was that dress. It's a discontinued dress and I got it on sale and was still 1000.00. My sister pulled it off the rack herself. When I confronted her she said we had months. I was like not if I didn't know I had to lose! Nor would I have bought a dress too small in the first place.

I'm sorry. They definitely should've told you or the sales person should have said something..

How long ago did you purchase it? How long have you been trying to lose weight? When's the wedding? Starving yourself will not help at all. Take care of your body

Does the back button up or is it a zipper with buttons covering it?

I'm so sorry the dress is not fitting the way it is supposed to. I've also been trying to lose weight and I felt like nothing was working for me until I tried fasting!

If you still want to try losing weight, here is what I do. I fast, so I pretty much don't eat until noon, then I have a protein shake. After my protein shake I usually eat a salad for lunch with protein like chicken. Make sure the salad you are eating is light in dressing. I pretty much eat the same thing for dinner salad with protein, you can also switch up the protein and dressing. Also make sure you eat your dinner at least 3 hours before bed time.

If that doesn't work, maybe take the dress to a different seamstress and see if they can somehow switch the type of buttons or add a corset back. If not, then the last resort is get a new dress and try to sell that one.

I wonder if it could be altered into a plunging v back instead (creating 2 straps just in the back)? I know it will make the dress quite different but may solve the issue?

I purchased in November and picked it up January 4th and have been trying since then. I teeter within the 190's. Wedding is March 19th. I started at 198, this am I was 191. But I have been as low as 190 2 weeks ago and never go lower...

Since it is all buttons, your seamstress may be able to make it into a corset/lace up back using the current button loops, adding loops to other side of the dress, and taking off the buttons (or using them as decoration in some sort of pattern on either side of the loops.

I would get a second opinion and see what they say! As far as starving, that only pockets more fat cells. Do you do any cardio? If not, start. If you do, up your cardio or do interval training. If you want to switch up your diet, go vegetarian or vegan. I’ve been vegan for a while now and initially lost a couple pounds and have been a perfect weight with perfect lab work since. Hang in there! 🤍

Oh I’m so sorry that happened. How far away is your wedding?

Honestly what I’ve been doing to lose weight is to have breakfast (nothing crazy eggs and turkey bacon) and straight protein and veggies for the other meals. Truthfully I’ve cut out as much added sugar as possible and I’ve been drinking a min of 64 oz of water. If you can I’ve also seen crazy fast weight lost when I went vegetarian for a bit (try to avoid pasta but stick to Whole Foods, brown rice, beans etc. goodful from buzzfeed have a ton of great video that’s may be able to help) and night walks with two to three times a week of running.
Overall you got this and it will all work itself out

Have you tried contacting the store? I purchased a dress that was also too small without realizing it (shopped by myself and the sales guy didn’t say it wasn’t zipped all the way!) It was mortifying when I tried it on at home, so I totally get your frustration right now 😭
The store owner wasn’t originally receptive, but when I brought it in to show her she realized that losing a few pounds isn’t going to change the size of your rib cage and agreed to a return despite their policy. If they refuse, you could offer just a partial return or (honestly) let them know you will be writing a review that their sales person sold you a dress that didn’t fit. Good luck!

It's typical to lose 1-2 pounds a week. And your weight fluctuates throughout the day. Have you tried to go full keto? I know people who have dropped weight fast that way. Im not sure how much weight/how many inches you'd have to lose but it seems a little impossible. Is there anyway you can buy another dress?
