Don't wear wedding rings on your honeymoon?

MrsReed, on October 25, 2013 at 11:01 AM

I remember seeing post early in my planning where ladies talked about what alternative ring they planned on wedding on their honeymoon. Am I not supposed to wear my ring to Punta Cana? Should I leave it at home in the states while away? Should I be worried IF I do bring it with me??

Nicole, Grand Cayman is beautiful with a 7 mile long beach. It is also one of the more Americanized Islands. Jamaica is beautiful, but can be a little scary...There were police with machine guns near a city center that our cruise ship stopped at. I had somebody pull me into a shop, and saw somebody trying to steal jewelry off of a different cruise ship passenger. Cozumel is nice, but not as much as Grand Cayman. I hear Belize is amazing...

Jamaica and Labadee were not safe to wear large jewelry...it did make you a target. Good luck Nicole!

I never take my rings off so if they want to steal it they will have to cut my finger off...lol

So weird I'm Nicole Lynn too Smiley smile I should change from Nicole C to Nicole S- but anyway Smiley smile

Just got back from Jamaica- took the rings off only for water sports (snorkeling, wake boarding, etc). It was fine. Just as long as they fit properly....

It might depend on where you're going. I'm going to Disney World, so I plan to wear mine. On a trip to Europe, I think I would only wear my band and not my e-ring. Thieves target tourists, and you will mostly likely scream tourist the second a theif sees you.

When I have traveled in Europe in the past, I didn't take any valuable jewelery with me.

If I was spending my honeymoon on a beach resort, I would probably not take my e-ring, just my band, and not wear it any time I went swimming (pool or ocean). Chlorine is very bad for the metals and gemstones and if by some chance something slipped off in the ocean, you're not going to see it again.

While I haven't traveled since I got engaged, I've been wearing my mom's engagement ring since she died. I've traveled to England twice, Portugal and Italy. No worries, no problems. I would've felt paranoid leaving them behind - what if someone robbed our house while I was gone and stole it? Then I'd feel bad if I didn't wear it/protect it. If it gets stolen when I wear it, then that would suck, but I'd prefer it that way.

It really just depends on where you're going and your comfort level. I wore mine the whole time in Ireland. I considered leaving them at home and I nixed that idea quickly. If they want these rings then they're going to have to fight me for them, end of story. I travel a lot and I wear them no matter what. Sometimes I'll turn them over to show just the metal band if it's shady and I'll take them off if I'm swimming but that's about it. Africa, HECK NO leave them at home!

If there is a safe in the room it should be fine..if you do take it off. I hate wearing my ring on the beach; I don't want sand getting in it. I also take my rings off when:

    1. I shower

    2. I'm handling raw meat or other messy food

    3. I'm using strong cleaning products

If you keep it on on the beach you can always get it cleaned when you get home.

I wore mine and DH wore his on our honeymoon. Having it fall off really shouldn't be an issue....it should fit well enough before the wedding.

Why are you going to such dangerous places in the first place, I would be more concerned about my life than any piece of jewelry. Please be careful while on your honeymoons.

We are doing a lot of physically active outdoors stuff on our honeymoon and my e-ring is a really high setting and tends to get caught on things. I will most likely just wear my band on our honeymoon.

I take mine off in the water mianly but sometimes I wear just my band while we're traveling to be safe, mine was from his late father so it's irreplaceable as well, even insurance wouldn't make up for it's loss

I actually bought rings for both FI and I to wear on our HM on Amazon. They were under $50 for both and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I know some of you joke that someone would have to cut their finger off to get their ring..personally I'm not really wanting to leave that as an option. We are going to Africa though, and I don't want our jewelry screaming wealthy American's while we're there.

My view was that I didn't want to be wearing a ring for the rest of my life that would be a problem any time I traveled, was out after dark, was in a high crime area, etc. I'd rather get a ring that would work in those situations than to have to think about whether it was safe to wear my ring every time I left the house. So I have no engagement ring, and wear a plain gold band as my wedding ring, which avoids the issue.

I took my wedding band and engagement ring and DH took his wedding band with us to our honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We would lock them up in the safe during the day when we were at the beach or by the pool, but put them on them later. Never had any issues. Also locked up the passports, extra money, DH's watch and my jewelery. Check to make sure your resort/room has a safe if you are worried.

I brought mine with me to our honeymoon in Puerto Rico, though I left it locked away a couple of times in the hotel room when we were on some excursions.

As a travel specialist, I caution you to not leave anything in a hotel safe. There are many people that have access to them, including maids, and hotel personnel, and the safes can be reset.

I am one to not wear my ring while traveling. For that, I have a special cz ring that lets people know I am married, and yet if it was lost, I wouldn't fret over it.

We're taking ours. We're doing a DW so we sort of have to. We'll put them in the safe when we leave the resort. They'll be insured so I'm not too worried.
