Do you know what style you want? Rustic, classic, chic, modern? then you can find a venue that matches and go from there!

Welcome! There are tons of checklists and planning resources on Wedding Wire and The Knot you can check out. The first thing couples usually do is figure out a budget, rough guest count, and time of year to get married in. Then, you want to start by looking for a venue. You technically don't have a date until you have a venue. After the venue is secured, you want to move on to hiring other vendors (photographer, dj, caterer, etc.). Personally, I changed my colors once we found the venue because the colors I wanted wouldn't work with that space, so I would keep that in mind.

Congratulations! First thing you'll want to do (or second, since you've decided on colors) is to set a budget. This is the most important part of your wedding. The best advice I ever heard about how to set a realistic budget is to figure out how much money you can set aside each month after you've paid all of your bills and put money into savings. Then, you'll multiply that by the length of your engagement. For example, if you were able to save $1000 every month x 17 month engagement = $17,000 budget.

The next thing you'll figure out is your guest list. Remember, the more people on the list, the more expensive everything is. If you are working with a small budget or want your budget to go further, a small guest count is the way to go. Using my example of $17,000 above, even if you had 100 guests, that would only be $170 per person, which does not go far when you're factoring in venue, food, alcohol, rentals, staff, photography, officiant, clothing, rings, etc. The guest list is the biggest area that could make or break your budget.

Once you've figured out your budget and guest list, then you get to do the fun stuff! You'll want to book the venue first as you won't have a true date until your venue is secured. From there, I'd get the most important vendors locked in; photography, catering, officiant. About a year out, you could start looking for your dress, florist, rentals, etc.

And have so much fun! I absolutely loved wedding planning and while our wedding didn't pan out the way planned, I wouldn't have changed a thing about the planning process!

Great! Maybe go on pintrest and try to narrow down the exact vibes you want. An approximate date (unless there’s one really special date you want) spring, summer, fall, winter? And then you can start looking at venues!

First thing is to create a potential guest list - the size of your guest list will determine how big or small the venue should be, plus some venues have minimums. Second thing is to pick a venue - this is super important because the whole venue is the BASE for the whole wedding, you want one that will fit the vibe and colors you want.

So first guest list - then venue - then go from there.

The first thing you need to do is decide on your budget then your guest list. Your guest list will help you determine what size venue you will need and what venues you can afford because a lot of venues provide in-house catering which is charged per person. While knowing what colors you want is good, it is actually more important to figure out a venue so that you have a date. Until you have a venue booked you don't have a wedding date. You may also end up changing colors based on the look of your venue.
