Dollar dance

Beautiful August., on July 14, 2010 at 2:03 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hey all,

What would you use to put the money on the bride and groom during the dollar dance? I'm scared that safety pins will mess up my dress. Any ideas?

They make money bags out of satin fabric. go to www.wrapwithus.com and type in "money bag" and you'll find one there, that website is relatively cheap for wedding favors and wedding items. I recommend them.

I don't blame you. I love my dress too much to let people stick pins in it.

It depends on which tradition you are following. In my 'family' we make a silk bag that matches the dress and that's where they keep the money. I'll wear it around my wrist.

Some videos me and my moh watched had a selected family member or bp collecting the money and they held the line while the bride and groom danced with their dance partner

I bought a satin bag to use...because I didnt want people putting holes in my dress with the safety pins! So I purchased a white satin bag! Smiley smile

I've see that too rachael p. Thats what my sisters did, delegated a trusting BM to do the collecting.

Is it ALWAYs a tradition to do the Dollar Dance?? I would hate to seem greedy... I mean no offense. I plan on doing it, but whats the tradition behind it?

Marcjanna the dollar dance originated in Poland I think years ago. The dance started as a way for newlyweds to get some cash to start them on the road to married life or for extra spending cash for the honeymoon. Most couples incorporate the dance for the simple reason that it’s a lot of fun, and a great way for individual guests to take a spin around the dance floor with the bride (and groom if you decide to include him)! It is not always a tradition and some couples decided not to do so.

I think it also depends on what region of the country you're in, and your ethnic background. I've never seen a dollar dance (I'm from DC and not of Eastern European origin), and I'd never even heard of it until recently.

I think people around here would be pretty baffled if I started spinning 'round with a silk bag full of money.

A basket! At my friends wedding the best man held the basket for the grooms dollars, and the maid of honor held the basket for the bride!
