Of course Jameena loves strippers. Anyhow, in the real world, it is a cultural tradition for a very few. Outside of those cultures, it's absolutely a no-go. So, if you're not in that culture, then I guess you would need to weigh your self worth against how much money you would stand to "earn" by doing the dollar dance.

A big part of the reason it makes a difference if it is cultural is if people will be prepared. I was just a bridesmaid in a wedding where it was traditional and EVERYONE knew and had cash ready.

My cousin did this. But they used the money to go towards things they needed. It was actually pretty fun and nobody was offended.

Unless it's your culture, I wouldn't do it.

My cousin attempted this at his wedding...it was awkward cause no one was getting up and giving the bride money. lol I just thought it was in poor taste I will never do it at my wedding. I can see having a money bag for cards, but people put them in a box nowadays.

We're definitely doing it, and its NOT part of our "culture." People are WILLING to pay a dollar to have some personal time with the bride and/or groom...at least that's how I've seen it at my family's weddings; some people donated and danced, others didn't and just chilled around until it was over (I don't remember it ever lasting longer than 10 minutes) My parents' families are huge, and my FH's family is huge, and it's impossible to be able to find personal time with EVERYBODY if you think about it. I do not see a problem with it, but that is my (unpopular) opinion.

@Elise I got personal time with guests when we made the rounds for table greetings. And they didn't have to pay for me to talk to them.

I love my friends dearly... and I know them well enough to know there will be some jokes made about it if I did it..,I can guarantee my best friend will say something like "oh yeah baby you gonna dance for me"... we'll all laugh, but I can't imagine asking friends and family to pay to talk to me. I'm not a therapist...

I've seen it at one wedding and refuse. My mom was kind of pushing on the idea and I told her how uncomfortable I felt as a guest during it. It was really awkward!

What's amazing to me is how many have experienced it as a guest and stated how awkward it was for them, yet those so in favor of it don't acknowledge it..l,

Every wedding on my dads side does one, but honestly it makes me feel weird--especially since as a non-traditional couple (we are 2 women), the rigidity and tradition of a dollar dance feels extra weird.

If people want to give you money, they will. If people are going to be crazy upset if you don't have a dollar dance, I guess do one--or just explain that this is your wedding and dollar dances aren't your thing.

How much "personal time" would you get with a dollar dance? Unless everyone got a whole song, you don't get that much. And a whole song per person is ridiculous.

This was the thing back in the day when people got married right out of HS. Most needed toasters, pan, dishes, etc., So this was a way to give the loving couple money for their honey moon etc... Now people are marrying older and have a lot of the household items - so most give cash anyway....

NO DOLLAR DANCE FOR ME Smiley smile
