Dollar Dance with a Twist

Katie, on May 14, 2014 at 4:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 41

I know I will probably get some sort of heat for this but I am hoping for some honest opinions. My FH father passed away almost two years ago unexpectedly. He was suffering from Multiple Sclerosis from almost 10 years and FMIL and FSIL came home from shopping one day and found him. They couldn't determine a cause of death - just that he had MS. We wanted to do something to honor him at the wedding - so we thought maybe we would do the dollar dance - but instead of keeping the money for ourselves we would donate it all to the Illinois Chapter of MS. We would make an announcement explaining this to our guests, and why we hold the MS Society so dearly to our hearts. The dollar dance is a fairly common tradition in my FH family but not mine.

I think that's a beautiful way to honor FH's father without turning the wedding into a memorial.

I love this idea Smiley smile Dollar dance is something that is very common where I live but a lot of people hate the idea. I think most people don't like the dollar dance because it is like the couple is asking for money. This is totally different and I think your FFIL would be proud Smiley smile

Wow!! I love this idea! I'm stealing this. My grandpa was like my best friend and he died 3 years ago due to cancer. I can't even think about him not being at my wedding without turning into an emotional wreck, but this will be such a great way to honor him. Thanks so much for the idea!

No. If you want to donate money, you go right ahead. If people choose to give you money (without you asking for it in any way) then you can donate it. But do not solicit donations from other people through dancing, etc.

I think it's a lovely idea. A lot of the guests I'm assuming probably hold your FH's father near and dear to their hearts as well. It's good to give.
