I love this idea Dollar dance is something that is very common where I live but a lot of people hate the idea. I think most people don't like the dollar dance because it is like the couple is asking for money. This is totally different and I think your FFIL would be proud

Wow!! I love this idea! I'm stealing this. My grandpa was like my best friend and he died 3 years ago due to cancer. I can't even think about him not being at my wedding without turning into an emotional wreck, but this will be such a great way to honor him. Thanks so much for the idea!

No. If you want to donate money, you go right ahead. If people choose to give you money (without you asking for it in any way) then you can donate it. But do not solicit donations from other people through dancing, etc.

I think it's a lovely idea. A lot of the guests I'm assuming probably hold your FH's father near and dear to their hearts as well. It's good to give.
