We would like to do a dollar dance and both families are on board however, there is disagreement about giving those who dance with us a gift. His family says you have to give a gift since they just paid you; my family has never heard of such a thing. We feel like we are giving them a meal and an open bar not to mention all the fun we are going to have. Also, no one is forced to participate in the dollar dance. What does everyone else think?

It was answered seriously . . . as in serioustly, don't do a dollar dance. Unless it's a cultural thing.

Just because it's "done all the time" doesn't make it not tacky, or rude.

How people look when they do dollar dances outside of a cultural tradition:

Jenny make him dance for the dollars? I've also seen it where the parents of the bride/groom hand out dollars and the dance is just for show, so no one has to actually give their own money.

Your question was answered seriously by most. It just wasn't what you wanted to hear, obviously.

This forum is actually really great, embrace the snark, don't do tacky things at your wedding, and you'd do a lot better.

I've never seen a gift given for a dollar dance

It's a tradition, people give literally a dollar for the most part this isn't paying for a honeymoon it's done at all weddings I've attended

@jenny you can always provide people with actual dollar bills along with the pins. From what I understand, it's just symbol of good luck that some people turn it into ugly tacky thing.

My mom did it at her wedding, and they got so much more extra money. They did not give any gifts. Everyone wanted to give the newly weds money without paying them back or giving them gifts.

Well if Jenna's mom got so much money, you should definitely do it!

Why not charge an entry fee to the wedding while you're at it? There was a bride on here once that was charging guests per plate.... Pure Genius.

Dang. I thought the answers were pretty reasonable.

But seriously don't do the dollar dance thing. It can make your guests feel very uncomfortable and it's just rude.

And seriously these responses are good.

Dollar dances are a cultural thing in my family, but I'm skipping it because no I don't to dance with weird uncle bob or awkward cousin Sally. Also no i don't want to ask people for money

IT was the "relax" part that was annoying.

Dollar dances are traditionally part of my culture but not FH's. I think they're incredibly tacky, so we're not doing it and I can only imagine the looks of horror on his family's faces.
