Dollar Dance gifts?

D, on August 17, 2016 at 12:34 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 78

We would like to do a dollar dance and both families are on board however, there is disagreement about giving those who dance with us a gift. His family says you have to give a gift since they just paid you; my family has never heard of such a thing. We feel like we are giving them a meal and an open bar not to mention all the fun we are going to have. Also, no one is forced to participate in the dollar dance. What does everyone else think?

Dollar dances are viewed as tacky and rude on this forum.

Dollar Dances are considered very tacky. Please don't do this to your guests. If they want to give you money they can without a dance.

I think the best solution is to not do a dollar dance.

The best gift you can give your guests is to not make them pull out their wallets for YOUR event.

Unless it's a cultural tradition, it's tacky. You are asking people to give you money.

If you have to question how to do it, you shouldn't probably do it.

Hi D! This is a frequently repeated hot topic on this forum, so beware Smiley smile If the dollar dance is an important cultural tradition in your family, then go for it! If you're doing it just for cash, then I'm not a fan Smiley sad

What exactly do you mean by gifts? When dollar dances are done I thought it was literally just a dollar? Isn't the exchange that they give you money to dance with you? I'd recommend focusing on either favors for all of your guests, or that your guests are well provided for with great food and drinks!

If it is not part of your culture, do not do it.

Why should someone need to give you money to dance with you? The reception is to thank your guests for attending your wedding and you should not have the option for them to give you dollars as a repayment.

Please don't make your guests feel awkward by asking them for money.

Yes you are giving them a meal and open bar and lots of fun. But they are paying for travel to your wedding, buying a new outfit, getting you a gift, possibly paying for baby sitting for the night, possibly missing work.

I have never heard of giving a gift. I have never been to a wedding that didn't have a dollar dance. If you do decide to do one, I think it would be a nice gesture to have a little card or some kind of favor. A majority on here will not agree with a dollar dance though.

Almost every wedding I have been to has a dollar dance and I think they're awkward AF.

Thank you to those who have given mature responses. I will no longer be utilizing this site since this one question has shown that reasonable questions are not answered seriously.
