Dog at wedding - how do you let your guests know?

Maggie, on February 3, 2019 at 11:29 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

We want to incorporate our 20lbs dog at the wedding. I was reading (and of course makes sense) that we should let our guests know that there will be a dog just in case they're allergic or afraid of them. What's the best way to do this?

Maybe you could mention it on your wedding website?

That's a good idea. What about people who are not tech savvy? just include it with their regular invites?

Can you have your dog walker or sitter take him home after the ceremony/photos to let you & guests enjoy a dog-free reception?

Maybe word of mouth? Or if you know anyone specifically with an allergy give them a heads up.

We're planning on having our dog in our wedding as well, he's a little bigger than your 20 lb dogs too (more like 60). To let guests know I put it on our website and I've been bringing it up to pretty much anyone who's asked about wedding details with me for the past 6 months. I don't think you need it on invitations if you do it that way. If you want though, it could go on a details card?

Yea- that's a good suggestion. I was thinking of putting a little card with the invites we send (will probably only be a few since most people are tech savvy), and on the details page for everyone else.

We are listing our dogs are part of the bridal party. However, most of the guests know how much they mean to us and that there’s no way we wouldn’t include them 🤷🏼‍♀️ We know of two people coming that are allergic to dogs but they have been around ours before so I’m not too concerned. Plus they will only be there for the ceremony they shouldn’t be all over the guest regardless so I’m thinking it won’t be an issue.

I recently went to a wedding with a dog. I don’t think there was anywhere that explicitly said he would be there, but, he was included in their photos on their save the dates, and listed on their website as their “best dog” — his presence on everything made me really feel there was no way he WOULDNT be there! Ha. He also went home after the ceremony (he was escorted down the aisle, at the altar for the ceremony, made a brief round of hellos at the cocktail hour, then was gone), so, really wouldn’t have been too aggravating for most allergies anyhow.

Our reception is on our farm so both our boys will be present they are a Newfoundland and bernese mountain dog so about 130lb and 95lb...we aren't giving anyone any notification. With the reception being at our home and the fact that we take th boys everywhere we didn't think it was necessary

On your website, you could list him/her as the "dog of honor" just so people know?

I would mention it on your wedding website and make sure anyone you talk to know. You can make sure your DoC has allergy meds in case anyone needs.
