Dog Added to the Guest List? I Don't Think So!

Donna, on April 15, 2014 at 11:59 AM Posted in Planning 0 68

We have been receiving our RSVP cards for the past two weeks with no drama or surprises at all until we opened yesterday's batch. One of John's friends wrote on the response card

" We will be bringing our dog Bruce along to stay for the week, since we see on the website that the Mark Twain House (our venue) is pet friendly." What? Are they kidding? The venue does permit you to bring one dog if you pay an extra $100 a week, but we are not even bringing our own dog down and we certainly did not make the option available to our guests. John will be letting them know that Bruce is uninvited and they will need to make other arrangements for him. So far we have no PEOPLE adding themselves to the guest list, but we do have one DOG. I hope the surprises stop here!

That's a first for me on WW. Do they mean they're just bringing him to stay with them and not the actual ceremony and reception?

We are staying at the event house with our guests for the week surrounding the wedding. It is an eighteen bedroom house. The ceremony will be on the beach in front of the house and the reception will be in the great room and on the deck, so the dog would be in the middle of it all.

@DisneyNut, it is kind of funny, I have to admit.

Yeah I'm assuming they mean they are bringing the dog with them but leaving him in their room during the actual wedding. Right? I hope? lol

Regardless of if they planned to bring the dog to the ceremony/reception or not I think this is extremly ridiculous.

I am sorry but that's too funny. I can't believe someone would do that.

I agree with Erin. As long as they're not bringing the dog to the reception or ceremony, I don't see why you would have an issue with their dog coming and staying in their hotel room. Since its a pet friendly hotel, there will likely be other dogs onsite during the wedding also. Boarding is very expensive.

That's a new one to me. I have never heard of anyone adding a dog! A service animal I understand (but that did cause me to wonder if hotels usually allow service animals even if they don't allow pets, I would assume they would but now I wonder. I worked in a hotel for 8 years and that never came up)

I kind of understand bringing your do with you on a week long 'vacation' which is what it sounds like your wedding will be for most of your guests. The $100 fee would be more than reasonable for me to bring my dog.

Granted, my dog would stay in our room for the actual wedding festivities.

Erin, I was just coming back to update my comment to say that I looked up the ADA to answer my own question. Any service animal has to be allowed.

"I'm sorry, but we've brought the caterers over specially from Korea. If they see a dog on the premises, they may mistake him for livestock and add him to the meal. While I'm sure Bruce would taste delicious in a ginger-soy marinade, we feel it is not appropriate to bring pets to the festivities."
