Does anyone save the top tier of their cake anymore?

I'm curious if anyone is planning on saving or has saved the top tier of their wedding cake for their first anniversary? I know this used to be something people did but not sure if it's necessary or if it's even good a year after.

We just had a cutting cake, so my mom saved a large slice of it for DH and I to put in the freezer. We have a move across the country this month, though, so it’s going to be a Valentine’s Day cake instead of for our first anniversary. I’m actually really excited because I only got one bite of it on our wedding day when we cut it (and it was AMAZING...but I almost barfed because it was so sweet and my stomach was still in knots from stress)...I keep trying to convince DH to pull it out and have it for dessert on random occasions, but he’s never in the mood for cake, so let’s see him refuse when I have a good reason for it. Ha!

It will depend. We have been browsing houses, but don't really plan to buy until after the wedding. We are currently renting and our freezer is ridiculously tiny. If we are still renting, we will not save the top (a shame, the top portion will be my favorite part of the design!). If we have a house, however, we want a freezer in the garage, so we can store it there. We shall see!

Like others have said our bakery makes us one on our 1st anniversary. It’s part of the wedding cake package. And I’m glad considering we have no freezer space and will most likely be moving before then lol.

We aren’t going to. We have a small drawer freezer and we need all the space we can get. Slicing that bad boy up along side our dessert bar! Plus I don’t love cake, I prefer steak!

Our bakery remakes our top tier for free for our anniversary. We ate it on our one month.

I did from our first marriage. We kept it for a year and then threw it out. Lol. Didn't even attempt to eat it.

My FMIL did this at her wedding a few years ago, and it held up pretty well.
The tradition is actually to save the cake so you don’t have to buy a cake for your baby shower (because you start making babies as soon as you get married) The meaning is a little dated, but I think it’s represented better now.

We aren't planning on it. Eating year old cake from the freezer sounds unappetizing.

We only had a small one tier cake. So not we didn't. We plan on getting another one on our anniversary. We had about half a cake left that we took home with us we had some that night then the next morning we finished it of eating right out of the box while sitting in bed. The best breakfast in bed ever.

We're not planning on saving it for the first anniversary, but will probably take home extra cake to enjoy after the wedding.
