Do you tip hair/makeup for the trial?

Mrs. S, on July 14, 2020 at 7:50 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 10
I booked 2 girls for hair and makeup for myself and bridal party. They are both affordable, but charging the same price for trial as the day of the wedding. I am not sure if I should tip both times? I thought they would maybe knock $10-15 off wedding or trial since I already booked them but I’m not sure the etiquette and I don’t want to disrespect their time/work! Thanks in advance!

You can tip them the day of the trial or tip them for the total amount of trial + wedding, but they should definitely be tipped for the trial at some point.

Okay! I definitely want to compensate them for the time they spend. I can either communicate to them that I can tip altogether or I can just do it separately, I don’t want them to think I’m not tipping at all! Thank you!!

I think I would just make that decision on my own. It would probably be awkward for them to be like "yeah, you can just tip me now." I personally find it easier to tip for the trial on the day of the trial so that it spreads out the expense a little bit.

This is the way I think of it, we literally have to pay to “try” them out. If I decide to hire them I will definitely tip them on the wedding day.

I plan on tipping my hair and makeup artist the day I do the trial. This way, I can spread out the total amount paid over a period of time (so I'm not paying a bunch of money at once), and also so my hair and makeup artist doesn't have to wait until my wedding to receive a tip for a service she performed weeks/months before my wedding.

Tipping the day of the trial is standard practice. Don't be thrown off by the word "trial"--these people are still there working hard on your makeup. I definitely think people need to tip the day of the trial

I tip both it’s still a service each time so I would usually tip for both trial and day of.
