Do you think this is Ok?

So I was working on setting up a room block at the Holiday Inn across the street from my venue which is also a hotel with a ballroom. After contacting the manager at the Holiday Inn we would be responsible paying for any rooms that aren't booked. I really don't want to do that. So I looked over my contract with my venue, the day before we have 10 rooms in our block and the day of the wedding we have 30 in our block. I know we are going to be having quite a few people coming in from out of town. My venue coordinator told us we can expand the room block after doing a quick headcount of how many rooms we would need we might need to expand for Friday if they allow us to, I know she said we could for Saturday but I can't remember if she said anything about Friday. That being said do you all think I need to have this room block at Holiday? The prices are actually more expensive there than at my venue. Plus besides my venue there are like 5 other hotels in the area of my venue that guests could book at. I'm thinking I don't need to create this other block..

Let your guests make their own arrangements. The block at your venue will be fine. Many guests have their own loyalties to hotels or they can find accommodations with online deals. You should not be on the hook for unused rooms.

The only reason we did a hotel block is because our entire guest list is from out of town. We only chose places that didn't charge us for unused rooms. I wouldn't contract somewhere that made you pay for unused rooms.

That sounds too risky. You already created one block, I wouldn't over book then be penalized for it in the end.

Right. The room block we have was complimentary too with booking the venue so we aren't responsible for paying for any unbooked rooms. They just release the room a month before the wedding which isn't a big deal I think.

Exactly. Most of my FH's family is from out of state, so I know the rooms we currently have will book eventually. I guess I will just see if I can expand the Friday room block at my venue. All they can do is say no lol.

I find that odd because I did a hotel block at Holiday Inn and they aren't charging me for unused rooms. I would choose the one that you aren't responsible for paying for

Yeah I don't know that's what the manager told me in her email. I looked to see if maybe something was planned for our town during that weekend and I can't find anything either. My FH agrees we are just going to keep the one we currently have and if anyone wants to stay somewhere else that's on them to find it! Thank you!

No, you definitely don't need another block, especially if you're responsible for un-booked rooms.
