Do you think it's weird if i get married in a barn and don't have a overly rustic, country, shabby chic wedding?

Noelle, on June 4, 2018 at 1:17 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 14

I want to have a star themed wedding, and I found this adorable barn that I would love to get married in. Say you were going to my wedding. Would you think it's weird that it isn't super country??

I think it'll be really pretty and easy to do a starry themed wedding at a barn! Personally, I wouldn't do any over-the-top elegant decor and keep it more simple and dainty to go more with the venue. It's actually refreshing to see a theme like that at a more "rustic" venue.

It's going to look rustic no matter what since it's in a barn, but I agree with Jax. That theme is a nice change to the overly rustic themes that are all over the place right now and I think it will look really nice.

Thanks! I am trying to do less cheesy (bright yellow stars) and more lights and sparkles. I want to string up a bunch lights all over and have tons of candles and old books cause we really like books. So still sorta rustic, but not really

Nope, I think it would be refreshing, actually. Just make sure your invitations imply the appropriate level of formality, since some might assume very casual if the venue is a barn.

Ok thanks for the tip! I never thought about that. We aren't having a black tie wedding (obviously!) But we aren't like boots and jeans wedding either.

I think you can do a lot with that theme even in a barn setting!! Not weird at all IMO.

Barn doesn't equal country anymore! I am SO not a country girl, but we're getting married in a gorgeous barn! These venues can be modified for so many different looks. We're going more elegant and emphasizing that with gold chargers and real napkins. Ours is still a little rustic but not in an overtly country way!

A lot of barn venues are actually removing the "shabby" and "country" elements of their barn, doing major upgrades and focusing more on a glam vibe or a blank canvas.

So much you can do with the barn setting! We are getting married in a barn but not doing any of the typical “rustic” decor (lace, burlap, mason jars). The barn setting is very much like my tractor loving FH, and the glittery rose gold I chose for things like tablecloths etc. is very me so it’s a nice combination of our personalitiesSmiley smile

    HI Noelle,

I think it will be nice to have your venue be separate from your theme! It will add many layers to the event and be enjoyable for you and your guests! Go For it! WeddingWire has a great article: 5 Reasons to get Married In a Barn. The first reason is that a barn is a blank canvass and you can make it whatever you want it to be!

I am trying to combine a lot!! I was born in the city and he is a country boy. So the barn is perfect, and I am adding the city "glam" (aka sparkly stars).

I don't think so! Our venue is an equestrian center, with a barn. We have country aspects but I'm staying away from overly country or burlap. I want the event to be elegant. So I think it's totally fine!

I’m having a barn wedding as well! We aren’t country at all, but I love the look. It isn’t super country but it is rustic I guess. We’re using strong lights, hay bails, etc.

on our website for the RSVP we have attire listed as dressy casual. I think that kinda tells everyone to dress nice but not black tie, lol. You can make a site as well at theknot for free. It’s great for RSVPs!!!! And then we just listed the website at the bottom of our invites.

I love the idea of a starry barn wedding. We’re getting married in a barn at a winery and there’s no theme at all, definitely nothing country or shabby chic.

I don't think that barns are solely for "super country" weddings. Our venue is a barn as well and, while our wedding will have some rustic elements, we are going for more of a vintage elegant theme. Barns are pretty versatile and can be changed to fit many different visions, but all of them will have a certain rustic feel purely because it is in a barn.
