Do you regret not spending enough on your dress?

I've gone to two salons to try on gowns. Found one at David Bridal's that I love but it's at the top of my budget (before alteration costs). Went to a different salon and found more affordable options rhat I like but not more than the DB dress. Did anyone go decide to go for the less expensive gown...

Did anyone go decide to go for the less expensive gown but wish you had splurged more foe the dress?

I got my dress at David's bridal for $250 on clearance. I'm a cheapass so while sometimes I wish I would have looked around more , I love that I got such a great deal and a dress I love

I spent exactly $0 of my own for my dress. A friend returned a wedding dress to DB and they gave her a store credit that she couldn't use. So she gifted it to me. I made sure to pick out a dress that fit within that store credit.

Occasionally, I ask myself why I didn't look for a dress at a boutique or try different stores, etc. Maybe I would have found something AMAZEBALLS and not just "pretty". But then I remember how little came out of pocket (only alterations) and I quickly get over it. It's one day. You'll look beautiful if you pick a dress that you feel beautiful in, even if it's not extremely pricey. And in several months/years, you won't be thinking "holy fuck what was I thinking spending X amount on a DRESS!"

I went in with a 1k budget. The first thing I did when I pulled a dress was check the price, so I really didn't even see any that were super pricey. But to me 1k was a big chunk of change & I couldn't imagine spending more than that for something to wear once. But I'm absolutely IN LOVE with the dress I chose, so no regret here.

My advice is, choose the dress you love as long as you can afford it. Have a max budget in mind. But if the one is cheaper, great! But don't try to force yourself into something cheaper if there is another one you love.

Maybe see if the designer is having a trunk show? Then you can get 10% off that day - or DB offers a military discount if you or your spouse are

Oh also DB offers sales too I've noticed. On Labor Day most dresses had a sale - Columbus Day is coming up so maybe then they'll have it reduced

I fell in love with two dresses and was absolutely torn. There was a pretty big price difference between the two, but in my mind I tried to think if price was not a factor, what dress do I personally love and can see myself in? Of course it was the more expensive dress, but I wouldn't change a thing. It brought tears to my eyes and I thought I would never have that moment. What dress is your dress? What dress do you see yourself in? Pick that one. If price is not a factor....what dress gives you that feeling. For me, it wasn't about the price tag.. I don't care if it's a $10 dress I found at a consignment store or a $10,000 dress at I found at Kleinfeld...it was about what dress gave me that moment of "this is it,this is my dress!"

No regret here!! My alterations cost as much as the dress which I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise!

What is "enough"? I spent $147 for my dress. I went with a BM dress in white, never wanted a train. It was perfect for me. I spent more in alterations ($230) than the actual dress, but I changed the neckline to a sweetheart & she had to cut off/hem two layers of chiffon.

My budget for dress, belt and veil was $2000. At the end of the day, I went over by about $200, but only because of alterations. I think its about the dress and how you feel in it...if you can splurge and cut back elsewhere, do so.

I haven't had my own experience yet, but i went dress shopping with my best friend for her wedding, and she also found her dream dress at DB. It was the one that we all instantly cried when she put it on. It was $1000.00 I believe... she did not want to spend that much. Technically it fit her budget (although at the very top), but she just couldn't pull the trigger on spending that much money. She ended up buying a similar dress for $600, also at DB. She says she has no regrets (And I hope that is true; she still looked gorgeous)... but I feel like she was a tiny bit disappointed, and if it had been me, I most definitely would gone with the dream dress. To each his own, but if it is "over-budget" within reason (like only a couple hundred more after alterations), I would probably do it.

I regret spending as much as I did and that's after I got the dress for 1/5th the original price through a sample sale and negotiating the hell out of it. I do love my dress and it does work in our budget but all that money for 1 dress regret is real. I strongly encourage seeing if that dress is on tradesy or on sample sale anywhere else. I did a comparison shop for my dress and people were pretty honest about when theirs will go to sample sale, etc.

I got a dress for half of my budget through a sample sale. It's actually from their couture collection, so it's not cheap. My only regret was that I had to buy it right then and there. I like to take my time with decisions, so I wish I could have kept looking just to make sure. It's a gorgeous, unique dress, though.

My dress was not a priority for me. My goal was to feel comfortable and pretty.

I couldn't find anything in my budget that fit the way I wanted.

In the end, a friend made my dress. It is very simple and low key which is what I wanted. The fit is impeccable which is really the most important thing in my opinion.

Added bonus... She is going to take the dress back after the wedding, shorten it and dye it. Then I get to wear it for my anniversary!

Mine was a gift from my mom, thankfully, and was what our budget was.
