Do you regret not spending enough on your dress?

GummyBearSTL, on September 12, 2016 at 8:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 56

I've gone to two salons to try on gowns. Found one at David Bridal's that I love but it's at the top of my budget (before alteration costs). Went to a different salon and found more affordable options rhat I like but not more than the DB dress. Did anyone go decide to go for the less expensive gown but wish you had splurged more foe the dress?

I gave the salon my arm for my dress :o I tried looking at cheaper options and I couldn't find anything I liked. I splurged and I'm okay with that. You have to go with what you love. You only do this once, right?

I had slight regret after FH got his suit and spending about 4 times I did. But I looked at the picture of the most expensive dress I tried on and happy with my decision.

I think it's not the price but the fit matter.

Can you look for it on tradesy? Or somewhere online for cheaper?

I definitely splurged and had buyers remorse because of it! I decided to shop around for cheaper options and nothing cut it. So I agree with MizzzCara, if you love it go for it. This is (hopefully) a once in a lifetime deal.

I am happy about not paying top dollar for something I will only wear once. If it is still somewhat in your budget and you can afford the extra for alterations, then go with what you are most comfortable in and will be happiest looking back on.

I found one that I liked that was right at my budget. We went to the next store and I fell in love with my dress that was double what my original budget was! I bought it and looking back on pictures I'm so glad that I did!! If you can afford it, get the dress that you're truly in love with!

It's all about the budget so if you love this dress and it throws your budget way off then you'll have to cut something else.

Nooooo, I walked in knowing my budget and stayed firm (factored in alterations cause hey I bought it myself and did the math for how many hours I worked for it haha!) Ive had a few girls (not engaged so they don't get it) tell me, "OH I'D SPEND A COUPLE THOUSAND ON A WEDDING DRESS!" after I have revealed I spent $800 on mine......to each their own, but don't let other people make you feel bad if that's why you are feeling regret, you picked your dress for a reason and when it comes down to it, it's ONE day. Smiley smile (Please don't think I'm being judgmental to those that spent more I just personally didn't want to budget my money that way but it makes me wanna scream when others that have never planned a wedding tell me how much they want to spend on THEIR way off wedding dress after I explained my budget and whatnot, fehhh!)

My dad and stepmom bought me my dress without me knowing. (My sister slipped them the info and they called the boutique) I get nervous when I think about it because I know it was a lot and I feel guilty they spent that much on me but it's my dream dress so I try to let that feeling over power the guilt of the amount.

My dress was cheap and I'm so grateful for it. I loved it and it didn't break the bank. Score!

I stuck to my budget. With a bigger budget I would likely have found my dream dress. I do love my dress though. I think it depends how important it is to you. It wasn't my top priority. If rather put the money into my ring. But I totally get it when people spend more.

Mine was passed $200 my budget but my dad paid for the extra- long story short I'm going to exchange it for something else because now I don't love it.

I do. I still have all the shopping photos, and while I love my dress, the other one just seemed to fit better overall.

IF things change between now and then though, like I loose a lot of weight (possibly,) and my current dress can't be altered, I will most definitely go back to my other pick.

It'a a tough call if you truly find "the dress" outside of your budget - risks of trying on dresses outside of your budget. How far off is it? Can you absorb the cost somewhere else? Personally, I would not spend a lot on a dress you only wear for one day, but the dress has always been pretty low on my priorities list. I mean, I wanted to look nice, but I didn't care to break the bank for it. I know for some women the dress is the most important part, so it's ultimately your call. But I absolutely did not regret my $300 dress. Could I have found a $600 dress I loved or a $2000 dress I loved, sure, but that was not even an option for me. I searched long and hard for that perfect $300 dress and bonus, I didn't care if it got dirty or stepped on because I knew it would be. I literally dragged it through the mud and rain so we could get some great shots with our photographer. I might have started hyperventilating if a $3000 dress had gotten as dirty as my $300 dress did. (like literally wringing dirty water out of the train) The photos though. The photos...

WW budget app is saying I have $**** to spend on dress and alterations..(depending on if I put in my 'real' budget or the one that's $5000 less that I'm working with to try and not go over)

I plan on telling any stores I go to not to show me anything over $1000. Hopefully that way even the most expensive one I try on will be in budget and this won't be a problem!

I got lucky my splurge dress was on sale! Budget was $2,000 and dress was Originally $3,500 and I got it for $2,100. I went to a small bridal shop I had one on one experience with the consultant.

Have you looked at designer sample sale dresses?

Sometimes older seasons dresses are marked drastically off.

It can be a way to find a higher price point dress within a tighter budget

I'm kind of in the same boat... I bought my dress on sale at David's Bridal. It felt like the one at the time but I can't help to think that I could have spent a little more. After some time though I bought some accessories and I'm really starting to love it.

I am happy that I found the perfect beautiful dress for a very reasonable amount of money. I could not justify spending a lot of money on a dress as my priorities were to put large parts of the budget towards other things like the venue and band.

Why pay an insane amount of money for something you only wear for one day?

Nobody knows the difference between a Vera Wang or a generic.

It's how you feel in it! Go with your gut, you don't want to think or look back at your pictures and say "I should have just got this or that etc" ..
