No, of course not. I’ve been to many weddings where people toasted with wine or not at all.

Not at all necessary! My husband and I didn't do a champagne toast at our wedding.

Many people toast with whatever they are already drinking. On the same token, many couples skip toasts entirely, and some have them at the rehearsal dinner only, if at all.

Yeah thats what I was thinking too .

I would rather use the money that I have saved for something else . I figured people would toast with whatever they have.

Generally I would lean towards champagne. However, we are doing toasts at our welcome party which is at a brewery. Not outside alcohol is allowed... So... We are toasting with beer Smiley smile

They usually call it “drinks in hand” when everyone just toasts with what they already have. I don’t think there have been champagne toasts at any of the weddings I’ve been to in the last five years, and I didn’t even notice.

We had champagne or sparkling cider as toasting drinks. Our circle runs to "formal" toasting, so it was expected. We offered sparkling cider because there were several guests who do not drink, my hubby included. Do what you feel is right for you and your intended guests.

You definitely do not need it. We only had a champagne toast because it was included in our package, otherwise we would not have paid for it. And since many people don't like it, I imagine a lot was wasted.
