Do you really need to get bridesmaid dresses 6 months out?

Joanna, on March 3, 2020 at 10:33 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

I'm getting married in early October and I'm seeing a lot of checklists that say now is the time to start shopping for bridesmaid dresses. Is that true? When did you start shopping?

I think it just depends on whether they are in stock or need to be ordered. Keep in mind that currently everything comes from China and with Coronavirus it could be delayed 6 months in arrival. I was told last month my wedding dress could take a minimum 6 months to arrive (my wedding 10/10.

I agree with PP. My bridesmaids are getting dresses from Azazie due to an increase in production time the latest that customer service recommended was ordering by May. Right now is a busy time production for dresses and with the coronavirus things are taking longer to get to us as well.

I think it just depends. I order both my daughters dresses (SAME dress one women size one kids sizes) back in Jan. The women size came in back in Feb and the kids size isn't coming in until April 20 Smiley atonished My wedding is May 23 so I might have to rush the alterations if she needs them. Every time I think about it i get nauseous.

As other pp said it depends on what you’re ordering because some dresses literally do take months to produce and arrive

I went to a boutique and they had to order my girls' dresses, they're Morilee brand. It takes 5 months for them to get the dresses in. We ordered in January and our expected arrival date is May 15th. Then, we have to have the alterations made because they were ordered in their sizes but a lot of my girls need the bottoms hemmed and the straps adjusted or they were in between two sizes.

Usually 3-4 months out but with Coronavirus, I’d go for 6 months!

I would go by whatever the company you’re looking at says. In 2018 when my girls ordered their dresses Azazie’s production time was 3 weeks. Right now they’re saying 9 weeks for those same dresses because things in the world are very different than 2 years ago. Go by what the company says to be on the safe side!

My wedding is also in October and I’m going shopping with all my girls this weekend. I ordered a bridesmaid dress for another wedding back in January and it won’t be here until May. Everything is being delayed so I would get on it just in case. No harm if the dress comes early.

Depends on many factors, such as where you're getting them. I wanted my bridesmaids to be able to pick their own styles since they have different body types, but I wanted the colors to match exactly. So with places like Azazie and Dessy you have to have them all place the order together so that the dresses are from the same dye lot and the colors match. My coordinator advised having all the girls place their orders 9-10 months out to give them ample time for alterations if necessary (though you can probably get away with less time, but I'd advise not waiting any longer due to production times with Coronavirus). If you don't care if they're all the same color then you're fine waiting longer, but if you want them all to match then I'd recommend getting on that order ASAP

I would just to make sure that there is time to get the dress ordered and have the girls get fitted, get alterations, and get it in their hands before the wedding.

Sometimes it is true! Yes! I took my BMs bridesmaid shopping and we ended up loving a dress from Davids Bridal. We purchased mid October and the expected arrival date was the end of February/Beginning of March for my April wedding. Some of the dresses arrived a month early.

This! Some of my BMs got their dresses in a few weeks and one should have hers in a month or so, but one of them won't get hers until the end of June (just a few weeks before our wedding!).

My girls have already picked their dresses out they just have to order them. My wedding is in November, my boutique told them they should order theirs in like June I think so that they could have them by late September early October so they can have alterations done 😊

I'd for sure pick them out so the girls can order them sooner rather than later. A lot of my girls already had their dresses by 6 months out.

We went bridesmaid dress shopping for the first time about a year out, which everyone told me was too early. It was nice to go and get an idea of the different styles and colors that would go with my palette. My wedding is April 30th, and we bought the dresses in December. The delivery date for the gowns was in March, as in the month before my wedding! Everything worked out because they came early so the girls were able to get their alterations done. But I would recommend to start looking at least 6 months in advance, because you're most likely not going to decide on the first trip.

My wedding is October 25th this year and we just got the bridesmaids dresses this past Saturday. The bridal shop told us it would take around 4 months for the dresses to come in so that would put us at around July but you have to keep in mind they may also need alterations. I think the sooner the better.
