Do you need to say the I do's if you are saying your own vows? Help Please!

FutureMrsK9-6, on August 25, 2016 at 2:15 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Our best friend is marrying us and we are writing our own vows. I have googled the crap out of this and so here I am to ask ya'll. Will our personal vows suffice? OR do we still have to do the traditional:

Do you, Groom , take, Bride to be your partner in love and life; will you honor and cherish ?her, for as long as you both shall live?

I do.

If I'm not mistaken, that part is what makes your wedding legal.

I think this can also vary by state, right?

    Ask your best friend.

Every state is different. Call your clerk, since your best friend doesn't know.

I would hire a professional. You want to make sure you're actually married at the end of it all.

In Virginia the Declaration of Intent ("I do" to do you come here of your own free will) legally must be done. I don't know if it's different elsewhere.

We are getting married in a state that you do not have to , but our Officiant (who has done tons of weddings) likes to add it at the end because it helps the flow of the ceremony to add the little traditional touches.
