Do you need a Makeup artist for your wedding?

Jennifer, on September 23, 2012 at 2:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I'm getting married in 5 days and I hate how two make up artists have done my makeup. The one makeup artist I was hopeful about stood me up for my appointment so I decided not to go with her. I'm running out of time to find a person to do my makeup so I'm wondering if I should just do my own makeup. How many people do their own makeup for their wedding? Is it a bad idea to do my own makeup? Should I find another makeup person and just hope they will listen to me on how to do my makeup?

Jennifer, I am so sorry you are going through this! I am really interested to see everyones posts because I too was thinking of doing my own make-up for the wedding. I am totally for it, but I would love to hear people's experience/stories.

I'd say, especially if you're paying a lot of money for photography, I wouldn't do my own make-up. I got my makeup done for my e-pics and in real life it looked like quite a lot of make-up in person but it came out perfectly in photographs. Unless you're really awesome at doing your own make-up, I'd hire someone.

Try to find a pro. I do my makeup regularly and yet the MUA did it 8 million times better. It also stayed longer, nothing ran or smudged, and it photographed fabulously.

What did you hate about that one MUA?

I was going to do my own makeup & my maid of honor canned that idea & offered to pay for a make-up artist. I still may go to MAC & see what I can do on my own...

I'm doing my own make-up and hair but have done so for 2 sets of previous professional pics and was VERY happy with both outcomes. If you have experience I'd say go for it but if you are even a bit unsure I would say go to a professional and make sure to you have a make-up trial.

I'm planning on doing my own makeup, but I have a lot of time to practice.

I don't wear makeup, so I definitely need a MUA. My sister (who is my MOH) has a friend who does makeup and offered to do mine for free.

I say find someone.. I do my own make up everyday and I still have those "bad make up days". Your nerves may be doing a number on you and the last thing you want is to worry about getting your make up perfect. How about when you get another MUA you tell her what want (perhaps even do your own makeup for her) and that will give her an idea of what you like. She can just add to it, make it more dramatic for the photos, or whatever you want her to do. Thats what I'm planning on doing. I hate how other people do my make up. I just need help with eyeshadow so I'm going to have a trial letting her see my everyday makeup, what I like, and just have her do the same version just more dramatic (shadow wise). Sorry your dealing with this right before your big day! Im sure you will figure something out =)

I am just going to Sephora with my girls and getting it done there. It is $50 and you get to spend that on make-up!! Smiley smile

I would definitely go with a MUA. They use good product that wears well, doesn't shine or smudge. You'r cutting it close but worse case scenario, go to your local mall and head for the Chanel or MAC Counters. You may have to buy something but you can always buy the lipstick and blush from them AND you can sit for a trial. Good Luck!

This is what I HIGHLY suggest you do. Depends on what time your wedding is..

Go to the mall as soon as they open and go to the makeup counter of your choice(if they have MAC, GO THERE! if not, I'm a huge fan of Clinique, Estee Lauder or even Lancome) It's FREE to go there but most of them require you to buy a few things(mostly a lipstick and liner)

As a former makeup artist myself I had alot of pleasure making the brides who came in feel gorgeous and relaxed on their BIG day! I really hope this helps you! Trust me I know what a pain in the ass it is to have to go somewhere else on your big day and waste more time, but since it's cheaper than anyother MUA I'd go there.

I have a suggestion for everyone. Do not wear any makeup 1 day before wedding. Let your skin breathe that day. Smiley smile
