Do you feed the photographer?

Kiki, on February 22, 2019 at 12:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Hi Brides,

I have booked a photographer for 3 hours to do my wedding photos, just wondering if we offer them dinner or not?

Usually if the photographer is there during the reception time you feed them...however I've heard this for photographers that will be there for 5+ hours. I'm not quite sure about a photographer for 3 hours. Will they be there during your reception?

I would ask them! My photographer required a meal in her contract but I’m not sure what the requirements would be for someone only there 3 hours.

I'd ask them or see if the contract mentions it. We are feeding ours, but she will be there for 8 hours. I'm not sure if it's needed for 3.

My photographer is scheduled to be done at 4 and food will begin at 3:30. She will be welcome to stay, eat and enjoy the wedding as a guest if she chooses to. We didn't care to have professional photos of the reception which is why we didn't schedule her for that time. I am inviting all of our vendors to eat if they would like to.

If it’s in the contract, you do.

Otherwise, I would just ask, especially they’re will be there during the time that they would typically have dinner.

I think that because it’s only three hours it’s defiantly different than a photographer being there for 6 hours, so I would just ask.

What does your contract state? Our contract states we have to provide a meal and breaks for everyone with them. Ours are leaving before our reception, which will only be a sit down dinner for 12-15.

Mine was only there for about that time (getting ready, ceremony, cocktail hour portraits). I just asked her— I offered the meal but she said they’d rather get out of there

We will be offering our photographer dinner! We have her for about 7 hours though. We'll also be offering her breakfast since she's also taking our getting ready photos!

Check the contract to see if they require it if they don’t then it’s up to you if you want to feed them or not

Idk if for 3 hours they truly need a meal. I think this completely depends on the timeline she will be there for. Only ceremony and after pictures, some of reception? If it's not even the reception at all she will be there for, I would say no. But definitely check the contract in any case.

I agree with Kelly about asking.
If the photographer will be present during dinner, I would definitely check if he/she requires a meal.
We're having a photo booth with 2 attendants and instead of wondering, I just reached out to the company and asked. To my surprise, they told me that they won't need a meal as they'll be focused on manning the booth.

I don't know if it's necessary but I personally wanted to be extra courteous and generous with our photographer especially since they still have a lot of work ahead of them! I trust them to be professional because we are paying for the service... but I'd still like them to be going into all that editing with a positive opinion of me, ha!

I don't even see how he would have time to eat. I don't know if he has a schedule, say 30 minutes for getting ready, 45 minutes for ceremony, 30 minutes for family photographs, and then 30 for candids. That ignores any travel time if you are not getting ready, having ceremony and reception at the same place, and if things run late Do you have a schedule of when/where the 3 hours will be?

Hi Kiki! In my contract, my photographer and videographer will be with us for about 7-8 hours. In the contract, it states that if a meal is not provided for them, they will take a lunch. So yes, we are feeding them and they are more than welcome to eat dinner and enjoy the reception

I don’t think 3 hours is required to feed them. My photographer has on contract for more than 6 hours which makes sense but for 3 I wouldn’t think specially since I assume she won’t be there at dinner time.
