Do officiant's provide contracts?

Alexis, on June 19, 2013 at 11:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

Hi girls,

I met with my officiant on Monday, my fiancé and I are 100% sure that this is the person we will love to marry us. Only one thing he didn't mention not once about signing a contract? Have any of you signed contracts with your officiants? Or is a contract not required for there services? Might be a silly question but I'm just curious to know. Thank you in advance for your help Smiley smile

Come to think of it, we don't have a contract. We're using a good friend's father though, and have multiple emails confirming the date. If it were anyone else I'd make sure I had a contract.

We do have a contract for ours and we put down a $25 deposit to hold the date.

Thank you so much May, I also have emails of us speaking. Here on wedding wire the officiant we chosed has many reviews speaking very highly of his services. I just don't know what to do I dont want him to feel offended if I were to ask him for one.

You girls are right I just hope he doesn't take it the wrong way. Before I mail him the deposit tomorrow I will contact him to speak about it.

We supply our couples with a contract - you are requesting services that you will be paying for.You need something in writing stating your ceremony date time and what is included in that fee, rehearsal, mileage if out of area what is the officiant going to wear? etc. Make sure to ask-maybe it just wasn't brought up yet as you still need to give a retainer?

Yes we have a signed contract and money down. Like Wendy C. said "no contract=no vendor" very important to have.

    Very true Felicia thank you...

Thank you Rev. Charles Hall, our officiant asked us to mail him a deposit we will be mailing it today but shouldn't I have a contract before the deposit stating our agreement? Or deposit then contract? I'm not sure how that works I know with every other vendor I am using we signed a contract before the Actual deposit.

I am getting married in my FH home church by one of the Fathers. We do not have a contract because we are not paying for his services, however it was "strongly recommended" that we make a donation to the Church as a thank you.

Our officiant's contract was very simple and literally just said the date and location of the ceremony, our names, and the fee to be paid (deposit plus remaining balance). I would ask him if he has a contract before you send the deposit, and if not, include a brief letter when you send your deposit for him to counter-sign and return to you.

FH has known our officiant since he was a baby so it's more of a family friend doing ours. I don't think he does contracts for any couples though!

We did a contract when we met with him and decided to book him, signed it and gave a deposit. He may not have mentioned it because he may not have wanted to pressure you to make a decision right then.

Unless it is the minister/priest/rabbi at your place of worship, you should have a contract.

Even if it is a friend or family member, you should have a contract. All of us (brides and pros) have heard the stories of friendors leaving you high & dry.

We got married in a church and like Nancy T. said we didn't have a contract with our minister, but we did with our church since we were paying money. We spoke with our minister numerous times and had emails with her about our ceremony.

Ours went over his contract during the initial consutation. It outlined everything (ceremony date time his duties, etc.) He also allowed revisions to customize to our ceremony.

Yes, I have an agreement in place with all the couples I work with. Speaking as an officant, but more as a wedding planner please get a contract for all your wedding services.

My contract spells out what I expect of the couple AND what they can expect of me.
