Do I need to have a flower girl or ring bearer?

Maui K, on July 19, 2016 at 2:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

I was originally not going to have anyone in the wedding party ...no bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls or ring bearers. But, I have lately been thinking about having a maid of honor and best friend; 2 people that are very close to us!

If I do have a MOH and BM, do you think I also need to have a flower girl and ring bearer? Between FH and I, we have 4 little girls in our family that would want to be flower girls, and I really don't want to deal with figuring out which one and then teaching them what to do.

You *need* a groom/bride, a legal officiant, and a marriage license.

I have 4 BMs, he has 4 GMs, no flower girl or ring bearer. We just didn't want kids in our wedding.

We aren't having either one. We don't have many kids in our families and well, I feel the same way..I don't want to figure out which one to choose and so forth...

We're probably going to have a flower girl, but we don't plan to have a ring bearer.

No, you don't have to have any. There is also no rule that you can only have 1 FG and 1 RB. We had 2 flowergirls and no ring bearer. You can have all 4 girls if you want. There isn't really anything to "teach" them. Just tell them what to do at the rehearsal. But by the way you are wording things, it sounds like you don't really want children in your wedding party, which is fine also!

Nope! If you did want to incorporate them, all four could participate, to do flowers or anything else. My cousin had many of our younger relatives ringing bells, which they quite enjoyed.

You don't need anyone but a partner to marry and an officiant.

You don't need anyone but your partner and an officiant. Everyone else is optional.

Definitely not. My sister told me the other day that I'm lucky I have little kids (hers) to be in my wedding because she didn't have a flower girl or ring bearer. But you know what? I completely forgot that she didn't have either one and I was in the wedding! So if you don't have kids you hold dear to your heart, don't sweat it!

Thanks everyone! I know the technical answer is no, I just wanted to know if it was in bad taste or rude to not have them. Smiley smile
