Do i need an introduction song

Mackenzie, on September 9, 2020 at 12:56 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

I'm trying to figure out if I need an introduction song when we come into the reception. We only have my photographer until 7:30 so she suggested to cut the cake when we first get in followed by our first dance to make sure we get picture of everything we want. We are not having our wedding party announced so it will be just me and my FH coming in. Should the introduction song and cake cutting song be the same or should we have two different ones? Also what are some ideas for songs?

I didn't do an introduction song or cake cutting song, but your DJ can give you some ideas.

Many people skip introductions at the beginning of the reception because of redundancy.
Just start with your first dance and go into cake cutting. Make sure that your coordinator and DJ are on board.
Outside of WW and Pinterest, I have never attended a wedding that had a separate cake cake song since it only takes a few seconds from start to finish. Even people cutting cake for guests don't take a super long time either.

I would actually recommend switching the cake cutting and first dance. So you walk in, the DJ/band introduces you and you almost immediately start dancing. It feels a lot more natural that way and may actually save you some time.
If you've already chosen a song for your first dance, the DJ/band can either play an extended intro that you walk out during, or they can recommend something that would flow well into your first dance song. After the first dance, they can just play something soft, like whatever they're planning to play during dinner.

We picked an "entrance song" to walk to play as we were introduced and walked in to the reception, and then we went straight into our first dance! The entrance song only played for about 40 seconds as we walked in, so it was super brief! We also didn't have a cake-cutting song. 🎵

You could pick an entrance song to play really quickly and then keep it playing for your cake-cutting, but I think I've also always seen cake cuttings happen in silence! Smiley cake

We had the BP introduced to Star Wars theme, and we were introduced with the Star Trek TNG theme.

If we had a cake cutting song, I do not remember it in the least!

I like this idea. Our “intro song” was actually our first dance song, but instead of letting it play normally, the DJ played a loop of the first few seconds of the song while he introduced our wedding party and then us— when we walked out, he transitioned to the full version of the song.
